What did you think?

I'm not quite sure yet. It was interesting but it didn't seem to have too much focus until the last 15 minutes. Also, the director seemed to be trying too hard to get that indie/surreal vibe to it; some of the scenes or details had no aim whatsoever. I suppose the lost/aimless feel was one of the main themes of the movie but there were times that I just wanted to slap the actors for trying so hard to be "out there" (ie the scene when natalie protman just starts making strange noises to "be original").

All in all, I think I liked it quite a bit. I would reccomend it.

Despite your convuluted review:) How do you not know if you liked it? You don't have to have a tangible reason.

I thought it was okay, but I found the style kind of annoying.

I love it. It's my favorite movie of 2004. I'm going to get it today.

I loved this movie.

And Natalie Portman is to die for in this role.

The dollar cinema is still playing it. I should get around to finally seeing this sometime this week.

Just watched it, was very disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it was a good movie, I just had really high expectations for it.

Although I usually like her, I thought Natalie Portman kinda sucked. It seemed like she was trying too hard at times.

Zack Braff did a great job, considering it was his first film.

I love every fucking second of this movie. I saw it at the theater a while ago but didnt really pay that close attention to it (I was on a date and extremly nervous). Then i watched it again tonight (oddly enough with the same girl) and was blown away.

Okay, so i just watched it again and i'd like to pose an alternate ending theory. I think it would have hammared home the notion of you only have one chance at life...if Large would have died in a plane crash on the way back to LA. It would have made it a "less hollywood" ending, and very sad in fact, but i think the point would have been delivered more dramaticly.

I agree. The ending was too hollywoodish and it basically ruined the whole movie for me.

same here. when i saw it in theatres, the people i was with couldn't stop raving about how great it was...but all i could think about was how terrible the ending was. braff would have possibly won me over it he had opted for a more lost in translation ending and maybe slightly toned down the melodrama. i found myself connecting with large in a lot of ways, it's just that something about the script and the acting just annoyed me.

I just watched it with my mom, and I felt the same exact way at the end. It was like the movie shifted abruptly at the scene on the stairs into a melodrama rather than the very interesting film it had been, and the characters changed almost completely. I would've been fine with it keeping the same tone and not having an actual "ending". As is, it was good, but not great like it could've been.

I realize my review made no sense to anyone but me now that I re-read it. :D

Anyways, I agree about then ending; with all that strange plane crash stuff at the beginning (the opening scene I believe), by the time the end came around I was sure that's what was going to happen.

Alas, they pulled out the most Hollywood ending imaginable and destroyed the "indie vibe" they had been trying to build the whole time.

Ending nonewithstanding, I'd probably give the film a 7/10 or so.

I loved this movie. I do agree with the fact that maybe the ending was too "hollywoodish", but I don't think it takes that much away from the film as a whole. Yeah, maybe it would have been best if it ended with him on the plane, but my sentimental side enjoyed seeing them together. I'm highly impresessed with Braff. What an amazing movie for him.

I think everyone's point was that one of the films main themes was that you only get one chance at life and that if he had died in a plane crash, or left the ending open, this point would have been driven home better at the end.

i think him dying at the end would have just made everything he had went through worthless and wouldn't have made any point at all. i think it was good that he decided to stay with the person who brought about the change in him rather than always doing stuff on his own like he had been doing.

i liked the ending. one thing that was good is that they didn't try and continue the story after that. it just ended with them together. most movies would have tried to show some sort of 1 year later scene or something. this didn't, which is good.
