i was debating whether to post this here or in AE, since i was debating with meself, it's gonna be here:

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/15568907.htm

Quote:
Lucas gives $175 million to USCStar Wars creator George Lucas, who honed his skills as a young film student at USC, is giving a little something back to his alma mater -- $175 million.

The gift from the Lucasfilm Foundation is the largest in the school's history, USC officials said. His donation topped the previous school record of $120 million, made in 1993 by Walter Annenberg.

Lucas, 62, graduated from USC in 1966.

The foundation is giving $75 million for the construction of a 137,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art home for the university's acclaimed cinema school. The remaining $100 million is to be used to endow the school.

''I discovered my passion for film and making movies when I was a student at USC in the 1960s, and my experiences there shaped the rest of my career,'' Lucas said in a statement.

``I'm also an ardent advocate for education at all levels and encouraging young people to pursue their ambitions by learning. I'm very fortunate to be in a position to combine my two passions and to be able to help USC continue molding the futures of the moviemakers of tomorrow.''

A groundbreaking ceremony for the school's new building is scheduled for Oct. 14.

In other Lucas news, The Force will be with the Rose Parade next year.

Lucas was named Tuesday as grand marshal of the 118th annual Tournament of Roses.

To the soaring strains of the Star Wars theme, Lucas arrived at the Tournament of Roses headquarters to accept the honor. On hand to greet him were Star Wars characters such as a roaring Chewbacca and a diminutive Ewok.

''It's always had a very special place in my heart and now it's an amazing thought that I'm going to be riding that funny old car at the very end of the parade,'' the director said.

The theme for the parade is ``Our Good Nature.''

Former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor was grand marshal of the 2006 parade.

That's right, bitches. While you're attending engineering seminars in some little portable, I'm making a sitcom with TV professionals on a high quality soundstage. I fucking love my school.

Maybe you could make a good sitcom that is watchable. "Arrested Development" is the only sitcom to come along since the end of "Seinfeld" that was laugh out loud funny and interesting.

That is my request. Give me a half an hour of quality on TV a week. Thanks Orpheus.

I will say, Orpheus, I have respect for USC. I have a good friend who is a PhD student who has had a fantastic experience and ample funding (which usually goes hand in hand). I am not a fan of their football team, but I love their classic look and lack of names on the jerseys. Good stuff!

He could have bought and redeveloped all of Compton for that amount.

Yes, but that would have destroyed the upbringing of prospective gangsta rappers.

The script is kind of crappy, so it probably won't be all that good, and it's not like it's going on TV or anything. It's just a badass class.

Once I'm out in the acting world though I'll make sure my shit is on point for you all.

Good man. Glad to hear that your schooling is going well.
