BALTIMORE -- Nearly a thousand disgruntled Orioles fans walked out of Baltimore's game against Detroit en masse on Thursday, culminating a demonstration aimed at team owner Peter Angelos.
A majority of the protesters wore black T-shirts that read "FREE THE BIRDS," and many carried signs that had "For Pete's Sake" on one side and "Free the Birds" on the other.
The funniest part of this whole thing is Angelos' responses...
Quote:
"Whoever joins that protest has no comprehension of what it costs to run a baseball team,"
Quote:
"He is a very unimportant person who has delusions of grandeur," Angelos said.
I've never been more embarassed to be an Orioles fan as I am today. The guy that organized this is the biggest ego maniac who ever walked the earth. I can't relay this point enough. If you have ever heard him on his station, you know what I mean. I hate Peter Angelos, but this isn't the answer. Fuck all of you that participated in this, all 750 of you apparently. Fuck you for thinking you are that important that you will change the mind of the owner. And fuck you for turning your back on the team. Fuck you and find a new team to root for. Fuck you.

..Why?
Peter Angelos is a fucking disgrace.
I don't see what the problem here is.
I agree. I would have no problem participating in this if the opportunity arose and I was an orioles fan. But if the Phils were as bad as teh O's I would do it too.

Of course he is. I mentioned how much I hate Angelos. But you don't walk out on your team in the middle of the game like they did. If you knew the person who organized this rally, you would know that this was all about him drumming up publicity for his two bit radio station. He says he's an Orioles fan but hasn't been for years.
If there was some sort of protest effort that I knew would work, I would get behind it in a second. I already no longer go to games, as a small chance to try to hit Angelos where it hurts, he wallet. Back in the late 90's, we had season tickets and would go every night, but I would never walk out on my team like these jokers did.

No matter who orgainzed it the message still got out. It was on all of the major sport channels and I am sure is being talked about on sport radio. If it helped that organization in the least it was worth it. I don't look at it as walking out on the players, the players were probably happy the matter got attention.
TW I respect your passion for the O's and understand you have more knowledge of this situation, but from an outsider I thought it was a good idea.

Around here it's most of the people agree with me in terms of this douche bag who set this up. They also say that something needs to be done. This clownshow said he would show up with 5000 people, you know how many showed up? 886(a reporter counted as they walked by the box).
What the fuck sense does it make to protest the owner by buying tickets?
it's probably my favorite "small city" if that makes any sense. I lived there for 4 years when the Orioles were pretty good and it's a shame what has gone on down there since then.

have you ever been outside of Baltimore?
yes, and I was scared for my life.
The Inner Harbor, Fells Point, and The area where Oriole Park is is all beutiful. I get down there at least once a year. Hope to live in the area some day. Usually stay in Pikesville which is decent
Actually the part of the city of Baltimore that aren't around the inner harbor or Johns Hopkins University, actually the large majority of the city is shit. The suburbs are very nice, with the exception of a miles east of the city and west of the city.

I know, I'm an Orioles fan. Trust me, I know. But they've been so useless the past few years that I'll root for them hard until about the middle/end of July, and then it makes no sense to even watch because the season's a lost cause and then I focus on other teams I like.

Sports teams aren't supposed to make PROFITS. Anyone who owns a team and is making ANY profits is a scoundrel.
It's like buying a Lambourghini as an investment property. It's not an investment, it's a vanity purchase. It will most likely be a money loser, write it off on your tax return, and try your damnedest to WIN. That's all.

Of course. And to make matters worse, Angelos cries that he is losing money when he refuses to open the book, after saying he would do so when he bought the team. The quote can be found if you do some searching. Nobody believes he is losing money without cooking the books.
