So, I've been learning some more about Clinton's initiative program, and I gotta say, I am really impressed.
Everything that I hate about Bono...Clinton's not doing it. He's taking a completely different approach to this, and it's such a breath of fresh air to me.
One of the big things I like about Clinton's program is its approach. He's not out there proclaiming that he's gonna end world poverty overnight, or at even any time. "We're gonna do what we can in small bights." He's completely honest about what he can do with this foundation.
Better yet, he actually has specific goals in mind. They have an X amount of donated money, and they have stated goals about what they are going to do with it. It's refreshing compared to, "we could mosquito nets for ten million people, or we could dig 5000 wells! But that's if the governments of the world buck up!" Clinton and his people have directly said, "this is what we want to do. We want to take this money, and dig five thousand merry-go-round water pumps (absolute brilliance) throughout just the country of South Africa.
What a concept huh?
Address problems.
Raise Money.
Clearly State goals.
Be Honest.
I hope more people get on board with this. I'd like to see Buffet and the Gates clan get involved with this. It already has procen tangible results that people can see. Clinton is doing what Bono and thousands of useless politicians along with the UN can't. He's actually having a meaningful impact and doing something while being honest and humble about it.

i am really quite impressed that you did not knee jerk reject his post pres work just because of who he is.
i myself am beginning to look at Bush Sr a bit differently...the internal jury is still out for deliberation though.

Right on. Its becoming more and more evident that in our current political environment those who have left the office of presidency often have the ability to affect change much more so after they have left office than when they were president. They are blessed with the international recognition and clout that comes with having held the highest office in America, but are unburdened of the politicisation of every task they undertake. Jimmy Carter is a great example of this and it appears Clinton is well on his way to creating a very positive and favorable post presidential body of work and service as well. And LW, I'll extend the olive branch and say that I'm not surprised at all that you applaud Clinton's efforts. I know that you recognize positive efforts when they are being undertaken, regardless of the political stripe of those involved.
I don't mean to threadjack here...I was going to bring this up in one of the other Clinton threads but they kept getting locked...so since we're on the subject of Clinton again...
There's one thing about him that really bugged me. It might seem a minor point to some, but I think the way he treated Lewinsky after the scandal broke was sort of pathetic. It kind of indicated to me that using people and tossing them aside was his MO. Certainly you could say that Lewinsky was foolish to think that it would end any other way, but I think something profound was revealed about Bill's character.
It also was fairly pathetic how the feminist crowd gave him a free pass on that one; there was some serious misogynistic overtones to the whole episode.
Personally, I would have blown off the whole sorry affair if Bill would have shown the slightest modicum of respect for Monica. I mean, it's not often in life that you find a nice girl who's willing to suck your dick, at the very least you can be nice to her.

I like him. For that one stupid Lewinsky saga, there were a million stories before and after about how generous and friendly he was. I could care less if some stupid airhead intern wanted to play house in the oval office. She knew what she was doing - and you can't pretend like she didn't assume some sort of career advancement would be involved. He didn't force her to do anything. That's a private matter between her, him and his wife, and has nothing to do with the rest of the country. I think it says a lot for his presidency that the repubs had to attack his PERSONAL life so intensely. Every president ever in office has had sex. It's got nothing to do with how he does his job. Sheesh.
