Hey there...I was wondering what program people like to use and how toget it for bit torrents...I had one but it seemed to slow my computer down a crap load....thanks tons.
I'm a fan of bittornado, I'm pretty sure its a far less drain on my system then the actual official release of bittorrent.
i use a p4 2.4ghz with a gig of ram.. but i'm pretty sure if i use the official torrent program, it starts lagging down the computer with a few torrents going simutaneously.
the original BitTorrent is the best http://bittorrent.com/.
have tried the other programs, some were not stable, sucked, died on me, etc... the one that started it all is the best, imo. hundreds & hundreds of downloads later, still the king of them all.

Does everything you need (including making your own torrents if you want and even running your own tracker). Great interface too.
THis is the best there is i tell ya.
Best thing to note guys and gals, if you seem to have problems make sure your port 6881 is open on your router/firewall. This will eleviate most of the download issues you have.
As for download times it is really gonna vary. Best thing to do, at least what i do, is to leave it running non-stop in the background on your PC. There are so many variables in how quick a download is such as. Total peers, seeds, what they have their settings at as far as upload from their PC. How fast they allow their uploads to be at any one time as well.
The thing i used to be hung up about was that i didnt haver a show downloaded in a hour or so. Some will take a few days. Some will be real fast. Its just something you have to let go and wait for sometimes. For example i am downloading the entire VFC DVD right now. It has been going for a day and a half now with 14 hours left to go. Its just over 4 GB. I have a 3.5Mbps connection with 768 Kbps up speed. Pretty nice connection i think. But its just slow to go. Patience is the main key with Bit torrent. No matter what program you really use.

How can i play a downloaded DVD without having a DVDburner? Software DVD players like the above described WinDVD allow you to select a harddrive for DVD playback. To make a DVD playable from your harddrive copy the VIDEO_TS folder to the root directory of a harddrive.
(Example: C:\VIDEO_TS)
When you start WinDVD now it will autoplay the DVD from your harddrive or you can manually switch to drive C with right click -> source.

Okay, I'm a patient guy and everything but this is where Bit Torrent becomes user UN-friendly, imo. Days upon days to download one show is just ridiculous (who cares what the size of the file is or how high quality it is). I could see it taking a few hours to download and feel that is a reasonable amount of time, but with all of the sensitive financial information that I keep on my PC, there is no way I could leave my firewall off for days while a show takes it time to download. There just has to be a better way. Hmmmmm?

J, you are not supposed to take down your firewall. All you should do is open the ports in your firewall that BitTorrent uses. The default is 6881-6889. Disabling your firewall is never a good idea.

Help! I downloaded Azureas. I got the bit torrent file in FLAC format - St. Louis 2004. I then downloaded Winamp 5.0 and the plugin supposedly which allowed me to pay FLAC files. All of the downloads seemed to work fine, but when I try to play it on Winamp - nothing - no error message or anything - just nothing!
