I persoanlly think they should have paid the entire bill, because they are such a succesful business. I mean $175 million is chump change for that league and its EXTREMELY wealthy owners. Not to mention all the tax $ they have used to build their state of the art stadiums. I know it is tough for some to do, i have grown up watching and playing football all of my life. Sunday's in my home were reserved for football, I watch monday night footabll like most everyone else, and I of course party it up for the super bowl like the rest of the country. But, i can only take so much greed, and i have had enough, no more of my money for these greedy fucks. I am through.
Who is with me?
The Washington Redskins franchise is currently valued at OVER $1 BILLION DOLLARS? you cant tell me that federal tax $ had to go to the stadium when houses are still not being built?
Teachers are hardly "barely making it day to day". The average teachers salary in this country was around $47,000. Thats for 10 months of work at most. My wife is a teacher, my sister is a teacher....they are both doing great. I'm sick and tired of hearing about how teachers don't make enough, they do just fine.

I know you guys probably hate 20/20, but I saw a program where John Stossel interviewed picketing teachers who said they were paid horribly. When he asked what they made, they all answered some where in between 50k and 65k per year but they still think they should make $100k per year!!! wtf??
The only people who might be underpaid are the deans and assistant principals. They bust their asses. And the school nurse salary varies but oftentimes it's much lower than teachers'.

John Stossel rules.
I have read both of his books, I really recommend them. His special on Teachers was phenominal, my wife agreed with him 100%. He especially ripped the teachers unions and the No child left behind program, which every teacher I know thinks is horrible.
If you average out the average teachers salary for 10 months of work they are making the equivalent of 56K a year.

nah, he sucks. Why doesn't he go ask teachers in Mississippi what they're making? Or maybe first year teachers in Montana? Perhaps because the answers wouldn't fit his end?

I agree. I saw that 20/20 special. The worst part was when they talked about all the teachers New York City had to pay to do nothing b/c the union wont allow them to be fired. After watching that program I'm all for school vouchers.

And the cost of living in those states is how much lower than NY?

How in the world do you expect me to answer a question like that?

I dunno. But that's always a relevant question when you're discussing what a proper wage should be.

I'm suggesting that we know that it is probably lower in those states, as the cost of living is in those places. Ask a first year anything and of course they will be making lower salaries than most for their profession. Thats why you look at the averages.
As for the original thing, I think Stossel was pointing out how ridiculous it was for those teachers to consider themselves underpaid when they are making 65,000 and up.

Exactly. He's a bit whiny but I usually agree with him. Teachers are the new self professed martyrs. I know teaching is a hard job, but what job is not hard? Some people have a gift and they work well with kids.

And that's probably legitimate in their case. My point is, does it matter? Should one little teachers' strike be a national story because one or two ladies in line make a decent living?

In at 8, out at 3:30, July and August off. Yes they do prepare off hours and they do have to deal with parents but guess what, every job requires you to deal with pains in the ass. People in general are a pain in the ass. Many many jobs also require you do do some work off-hours as well. Teachers need to quit complaining or get a new job.

So are you suggesting that this is an isolated incident?
re-read his question. He asked me how much lower the cost-of-living was in mississippi and montana. How am I supposed to answer such a question when I don't know what he wants it contrasted with?
As for the original thing, I think Stossel was pointing out how ridiculous it was for those teachers to consider themselves underpaid when they are making 65,000 and up.
Why can't you make $65,000 a year and think you're underpaid? When I was making that much I knew I was underpaid. I did my homework regarding the average salary for my responsibilities and my contribution to company profit, took it to my boss and got a decent raise.
Good teachers are underpaid, first year teachers are underpaid in most places. Average and poor teachers are overpaid. That teachers are unionized in a government controlled near-monopoly situation is a joke. Vouchers is the only way to go but it seems as if this idea frightens the shit out of the unions and many on the left.

It's pretty much news when anyone goes on strike. I'm not sure what point you are trying to make here. I am getting scared.
