Based on the Halo® universe, Halo Wars™ establishes the real-time strategy genre on the Xbox 360 console. Halo Wars places the player in command of human UNSC armies as they deploy for mankind’s first deadly encounter with the evil Covenant forces.
I can't wait.

I'll check it out, but it's no substitue for Halo 3. When is next-gen gaming going to be exciting already?

Just to clarify - there are 3 Halo games on the horizon:
Halo 3 (FPS)
Halo Wars (RTS)
Halo [untitled] (unknown) - Being directed (?) by Peter Jackson so it's probably based on the movie. Details below (courtesy of IGN).
In addition to their collaboration on the Halo movie, film super-group Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and team (Lord of the Rings, King Kong) will collaborate with Microsoft on two games: a new chapter in the Halo saga, and an entirely new property, the company announced in Barcelona today.
Jackson's team will work with Bungie to co-write, co-design, and co-produce what Microsoft says is a "completely new and original chapter" in the Halo series (i.e., not Halo 3). Jackson is hardly new to the Halo universe -- the acclaimed director is producing the Halo feature film.
In addition to the new Halo title, Jackson is working on a second game which Microsoft describes as an "entirely original property targeted at bringing new audiences into the captivating world of interactive entertainment." Jackson and team will create the title with Microsoft Game Studios.
Supporting these game projects, Jackson and Walsh working with Microsoft to establish Wingnut Interactive, a games studio to stand alongside Jackson's acclaimed Wingnut Films production company.
"Microsoft has built an amazing living canvas with Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, which allows the storytellers of our time to express themselves in a new medium. They have fundamentally changed how people think about games," Jackson said. "My vision, together with Microsoft Game Studios, is to push the boundaries of game development and the future of interactive entertainment. From a movie-maker's point of view, it is clear to me that the Xbox 360 platform is the stage where storytellers can work their craft in the same way they do today with movies and books but taking it further with interactivity."
