If you've ever attended a game at Yankee Stadium, you know Eddie Layton, although his name may not be familiar. He was the organist on the Hammond B3 at the Stadium from 1967 to 2003 and he gave the place its signature sound between innings and between batters. He was the first to play the now cliche "civil war charge" to which the crowd spontaneously replied with a shout of "CHARGE!!" from the first time, as well as many other tunes that are now inexorably linked with Yankee Stadium. "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" at the 7th inning stretch was always just Eddie on the organ, and the Stadium crowd on vocals.
His playing added a true touch of class to the Yankee Stadium experience, and I am very sad to hear of his passing.

Sucks. Even though I'm not a Yankee fan, I usually get down to a few games a season. It won't be the same without him. It won't be the same without him. It's funny to say that about the stadium organist, but it's true.
Edit: I didn't get to any last year, so this year will be the first time I go to a game without him.
