i saw some little kid playing this at gamecrazy....looked pretty sweet, at least good for a rental by my estimation
yeah its real sweet..
a rental would be tough to beat..it seems like a long one..its lamost like a rpg..you have to kill for experience and shit..
its an amazing game if you play multiplayer..if you have the 4 player hookup you could play 4 at once..we play 2 at once..brings back old contra memories

ive been playing it also, for xbox, and i too am where the ship sinks. i can get about three crew members to saftey, but i always run out of time
nowhere seems to have any cheats/hints for the game either
if youre cyclops or storm you could somehow use your powers to plug the holes..also take iceman..he puts out fires for shortcuts and i think he could make bridges for shortcuts
this part sucks..i get a bunch of them..i try not to fight anyone to save time..and end up gettin 500 people on my ass..i always do somethin stupid like fall into water when i lose

yup, i think anyone with energy based powers, cyclops, storm, gambit, jubilee will weld the holes, ice man to get across the impassable areas, and you can use nightcrawler to teleport past obstacles
the thing is, im starting with 3 minutes to go, and after i plug up the two areas, im up to about 7 minutes to go, but then you have to find 8 sailors

Is this game worth the 50 bucks?
I'm a huge X-Men fan and I've been continually disappointed with X-games. Is it finally "the one"?
It is indeed worth the 50 bucks and it definitely is "The One." I got it when it came out and beat it a week ago on Sunday. It's phenominal. Bear in mind that it's an American RPG, similar to the Baldur's Gate series and Knights of the Old Republic. I guess it'd be safe to call it an action RPG. The storyline is tight.
One of the coolest features in the game are the "flashback missions" where you play through three events from the X-Men's past. They include the first appearance of Juggernaut (when he attacked the mansion in Uncanny #9) and the battle with the Sentinels in New York (Uncanny #98 ). There's one other, but it's a big spoiler, so I won't say anything. When you play these missions, the characters wear the costumes appropriate to that era of the comics. Iceman looks like a snowman and the other three X-Men (Angel isn't in the game) are wearing the original blue and gold costumes when fighting Juggernaut, and Jean, Scott, Kurt and Logan are all wearing their 70s era X-Men costumes when they fight the Sentinels. After beating the game, you get to change out your characters' costumes on the next replay. It's really quite cool.
To answer a few other questions posed in the thread: the game lasts roughly 25 to 30 hours if you do EVERYTHING.
Cyclops, Storm or Magma are the only characters who can weld holes shut. Magma and Iceman, if powered appropriately, can create bridges to get across impassable areas.
The game isn't that tough -- I played it through without looking at a strategy guide once.
The key on the U.S.S. arbiter is to plug the holes first, then find one sailor at a time, then get them to safety. Plugging the holes adds five minutes to your time.
Also, the danger room scenarios are your friend. Running through the scenarios will give you a wealth of experience. Take the time to find the discs and play out those levels. The various "challenge" scenarios reward you with very very helpful items. The most helpful comes from the "Challenge: Legends" disc which can only be attained on the final level of the game. It gives you The Helmet of Xorn, which lets you use mutant powers without using your energy AT ALL.
Iceman is, in my opinion, the best character in the game, as he has the best power in the game -- Freeze Blast. At higher levels it stops your opponents completely, leaving them sitting ducks for the rest of the team. His Extreme Power, Freeze Frame, flash-freezes EVERYONE in a certain radius. Combine that with Storm's lightining power at a higher level (Chain lightning) and everyone dies quickly. Also, Storm's cyclone power, fully leveled up is a thing of beauty. My team of choice for the biggest portion of the game was Wolverine (level up his healing factor the first chance you get), Storm (max out her leadership asap for BIG XP bonuses), Iceman and Colossus (his seismic clap power is ridiculously cool -- also make sure you max out his "might" ability ASAP).
However, since you don't get Piotr until about halfway through, I recommend using Rogue (max out Might and flight quickly) or Jean Grey (Psychic Scream is crazy powerful, too). I pretty much ignored everyone else in the game because the above combination was so unbeatable.

This game is so worth your $50 it's ridiculous.
Also, I have a multi tap so my buddies and I were playing 4 player coop last week. It was before we actually understood the game mechanics, so it got kind of difficult and confusing at times, but it's still great.

And the magnitude of each keeps getting bigger and bigger. I was continuously amazed by how well-thought out this game is. I bought it to tide me over until GTA San Andreas came out, and it was so good I wound up beating it long before I should have.
