however, i think mccartney is the best musician of them all.

i just think it was lennon's dark, rock influence that drove the band. he was almost like a fatherly figure to them. of course, it's tough to say without so-and-so they would have done this, but they're entire change from pop to psychdelic could be contributed a lot to lennon.

i agree they were equals in terms of being part of that band. but i still think lennon really drove them to greatness.

I think it's dubious to say that Lennon drove them to greatness. Many of McCartney's songs are just as good, if not better, than Lennon's. And while John Lennon wrote really great songs, he could never be quite as sweet as Paul was on Michelle for example, and Paul was the better vocalist. This is the great thing about them; they were the perfect foils to eachother. John was sarcastic and deep, Paul was sweet and had the perfect knack for melody. hey each had these traits to be sure, but they brought them out in eachother. If there is no John Lennon or Paul McCartney, there's no Beatles. That's what's so great about them. And while I love George, it took him a while to get kicking, while Paul was excellent from I Saw Her Standing There to Her Majesty. But anyways, Paul is great.

For some reason Lennon always gets the credit for being the driving force behind their late 60s darker sound. But it was actually Paul who was the driving force. Sgt Peppers, Magical Mystery Tour, The White Album... without Paul none of these albums would have been made.

seriously i prefeer Lennon and Harrison compositions and their badass attitude, but i can see McCartney's influence in the band, it must be a tough competition with Lennon, i agree that every member contribute to that wonderful sound, that's why George Martin asked if they can change their drummer and then they hired Ringo because Best was a total mess, every part of The Beatles is completely necessary.
