This got me upset. Two weeks ago at Cleveland Browns Stadium two reporters dressed as Ravens fans (they aren;t fans of the Ravens) went to the Cleveland Browns game vs. Baltimore. 1 reporter wore a RAY LEWIS JERSEY, and the other a Ravens T-shirt They wanted to see if they were treated badly, IE verbal abuse or physical abuse.
They did their report, and they came out and said, "people got in our face, they called us assholes, saying get the fuck out of here, Go back to Baltimore" "Fuck you, you are a fuckin asshole"...... this is normal shit you hear at any game if you are the opposing fan at an away game. **NOTE THEY WERE NEVER HIT OR PHYSICALLY ASSAULTED IN ANY WAY**
Now they reported it in the Cleveland newspaper (PLAIN DEALER) and many fans spoke out, saying this has to stop, "i bring my 10 year old to a game and i shouldn't have to hear people using bad language, or having to read a shirt that says "FUCK BALTIMORE". "
Now this is where i get upset, If you go to a Football game in any stadium you will hear, swearing, you will the the middle finger go up. and you will see opposong fans being called assholes. it is nothing new, and there is nothing wrong with it, I personally go to "away games" and i expect to be verbally abused. I went to my first Browns game when i was 8, i heard fuck, shit, asshole, and everything under the sun.
If you bring a child to a game and are offended by bad language, don;t go. Simple as that. you can't tell me a 10 year old has never heard the word shit before, or even spoke it. I get upset because if the Browns beef up security and nit-pick at every little thing that is being said, it's gonna ruin it. i sit in the Dawg Pound for chirst sake, how can you even put a stop to having fun, As long as peoples lives are not in danger i have no problem with what goes on at football games.

I agree with everything you say. But the Browns really blow.
This isn't really a valid comparison to anything. What Art Modell did to Cleveland was a slap in the face. By declaring fandom of the Ravens in Cleveland, you really are kind of saying "Fuck you" to the whole city. You deserve whatever they decide to say back to you.
I mean, this happens in baseball all the time, and aside from that Giants fan that got stabbed outside Dodger Stadium last year, life goes on.

Yeah god forbid you should be asked to not verbally assault people.

as long as it's vocal..... I have no issue with it, it's nice theres an area people still have passion.
Do we have to homogenize everything for the offended?
When Philly was here last year I remembered the NFC championship and the shit they gave us. I let everyone in a green jersey hear about it and it was fun. I didn't throw batteries, but I did use some foul language.
I really hope they aren't too emotionally scarred.

For the most part, I agree with your post.
BUT, let me share a story with you. I went to a Browns vs Bills game in 1995. It was a Monday Night Football game, the day before Modell announced the move to Baltimore. I am a Bills fan. I am wearing jeans, a sweatshirt, windbreaker, and a Bills baeball hat. I walk out of the tunnel to go to my seat. I say nothing, I make no gestures, cheers, nothing at all. People start throwing garbage, ice, cups and beer at me. This lasted through most of the game.
I understand giving some verbal abuse to someone (your team sucks, go home, etc.), I expect that. But throwing ice at someone just because they are wearing an opposing teams hat is sad.

If your life is based so firmly around a sports team that you feel it necessary to verbally abuse and assault another human being based on his allegiance to another team, you're a pretty fucked up person and your life is pretty pathetic.

i'm not talking about Cleveland and BAltimore,
this happens at every stadium in the NFL. Period
That's not a good thing. Fan behavior at NFL stadiums is out of control. Believe it or not, I think you should be able to bring your kid to the game every once in a while without fear of being showered with beer or bumped into by a drunk fool who can barely stand. These "fans" are there to get wasted so they have three hours away from their clearly miserable lives.
I've got no problem with heckling opposing fans mercilessly, but a lot of stuff goes way over the line.

OZymandias,
i hope you are joking.
for the record i don;t agree with people getting hit by anything. i was at the JETS game in 02 when cleveland won. I was hit with beer, hot dog buns, and ice. i'm not saying it was right and i wouldn;t do that to anybody either. but if i'm going to go to a game and am forced to sit on my hands and act like i'm in church that's just wrong.

Thanks for a logical response. The first pro game I went to was a few years ago. There was a man on our row with three small children and the kids were wearing hearing protection. I thought it was odd and the game started. I quickly realized why the children were wearing them. I go to Auburn games all over the South and you hear some profanity. But the pro game took it to another level. I can't stand to hear someone cuss when there are kids around. Charater goes a long way. Something our country is missing.
