I don't think Jeff Ament is THAT good at basketball

I'm guessing this is a "when," not an "if." At least some members of the band have been involved in three inductions that I can think of (The Doors, Neil [and Crazyhorse together, I believe], and The Ramones), so even with Ed's tirade last time, I believe they have some kind of respect for the institution and would accept an induction.
Who would induct them would be an interesting question...my knee jerk reaction would be someone they respect who is already in the hall, like Neil or somebody like that. But since they got to induct some of their idols that they were influenced by, wouldn't it be fitting if they let someone else induct them? Maybe we haven't even heard of the artist yet (what does it have to be, 30 years since their first album is released? so 2022?). If they were inducted tomorrow, I'd guess it'd be some current act Ed is high on: I've heard him talk a lot about liking the White Stripes. Or maybe, even though they broke up, Sleater-Kinney? Another possibility: Chris Cornell inducts them (Soundgarden will go in a few years before Pearl Jam), then they rock out some PJ and ToTD tunes.

Candidates: Neil Young returns the favor, saying few words but nailing the essence of Pearl Jam in the process, or Bono talks about the how much this band has done for music and for the world, or Micheal Stipe thanks them for rescuing music in the early 90s, and what it has meant that they have stayed together and continue to make great music, or the members of Soundgarden quietly pay homage to the period when the Seattle bands ruled the world.... A few possibilities, anyway.

It's 25 years after the first album release, so 2016, I think. Could quite possibly be someone who we don't know about yet will induct them. I hope it's someone I like though, not some... whatever.

don't they usually have newer artists introduce the old ones--the people who the band going in have influenced.
