I think you could find room for him, he would be the best hitter on your team. I just threw Manny in there to balance salaries.

sox were ready to give Manny away for free three years ago. I don't think his value has increased to the point where they can expect an MVP caliber player for him - especially considering he quit on the team this year.

let's assume the Yanks and Sox were in different divisions and had no problems making a trade.

how about Sheffield (signed for one more year at $13M) and Farnsworth for Manny? If the Sox included a decent prospect, you could have Abreu (signed for one year with a team option) instead of Sheff.

First, Manny didn't quit on the team that is a myth. He was hurt and if he played with the injury he had he ran the chance of his knee just giving out. This happended to John Valentin when he tried to play with Patella Tendinitis and it ruined his career. Manny carried this team, along with Ortiz, and when they were out of it he had to shut it down. I wouldn't do the Sheff deal becasue 13M is too much. I'd be comfortable overpaying for Arod, not for old man Sheff. And I would never get a Yankee pitcher, especially a relief pitcher, becasue Torre guarantees an injury the next year after running the guy in the ground.

How about Francona with Foulke? His 2004 overuse has ruined at least 2 years of his career and maybe all of it.

why are they looking to move Manny then? Isn't part of it because Francona was pissed at him at the end of the year?

Sheff's salary is peanuts compared to the $40 Manny has coming to him. And Farnsworth is one of the few guys Torre didn't abuse last year. Only reason I included him is to even up the money a bit for the Yankees and even up the talent difference from the Boston's side (manny being better than Sheff).

Anyway, if the Sox can get legit prospects or another star for Manny...then good for them - but I don't see it happening unless Boston picks up a lot of his contract or takes back another big contract. And if A-Rod goes on the trading block, the market for Manny likely won't be as good.

They have wanted to move his contract for a while, not him. The current ownership looks at the contract as an albatross, which it is, but they can't find anyone to replace his production. The contract, in ownerships view, puts too much of strain on payroll, ie. the $20 million could be spread around for other things. But I don't want to get rid of him. For the most part he is durable, except the year he broke his finger and this year with the knee. I agree, with Arod on the block the market changes for the Sox and Manny and I really hope it means he finishes his career here.

Yeah, we would we be involved in a deal that nets the Yanks Papelbon and Peavy. What a horrible deal, except for you.

if they want a straight salary dump, the Angels might consider him...but Boston might have to pick up maybe $10M or so.

Foulke has always had back issues, but Francona is a terrible game manger. He really sucks.

What gives me some comfort is that ownership and Theo won't trad him for 50 cents on the doller. They could have traded a couple of summers ago when everyone and their mother hated him here and they didn't.
