=================HEADER POST=====================

Eric started a thread similar to this on the old RM, but it never took off. I thought it might be fun to go through the NFL teams, from worst to first, and discuss what they should do in the offseason. I'm sure some teams (EAGLES, Steelers, Colts, Pats, Broncos) will get more attention than others (Cardinals ), but we'll see what happens.

Once we get tired of talking about a certain team, I'll make a link to the post where discussion started about them here in the header post, and we'll move onto the next one.

Here's are links to the 2005 free agents:
http://www.profootballcentral.com/free_agents.htm
http://nffcboards.stats.com/cgi-bin/ult ... 3;t=000135

and if anyone has a link to some good draft profiles, feel free to tell us about it!

#1: San Francisco 49ers
#2: Miami Dolphins
#3: Cleveland Browns
#4: Chicago Bears
#5: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
#6: Tennessee Titans
#7: Oakland Raiders
#8: Arizona Cardinals

So, since the Niners have locked up the #1 draft pick, we can start with them right now.

As nice as a high-caliber QB like Leinart might be, I think it would be better for them to trade down a few spots. I seem to recall that they could use O-line and secondary help, and if so, CB Antrell Rolle might be a good path in the draft.

I think the Niners would pick Rodgers over Leinart. I'm not even sure if they would keep the #1 anyway since they have rattay. They might trade it for some defensive help

Yeah, I can't say yet who might be better. I just threw one of their names out there.

I'd definitely keep Rattay around for another couple of years. The guy has no team around him at all. He can't win with that piece of crap roster. Nobody can. They definitely do not need to draft another quarterback. They could clone Peyton Manning and still be horrible. I haven't seen much of them this year (by choice, really) so I can't say whether or not their backs are good. When I did see them, I was rather unimpressed with Barlow so I'd go after a back in the free agent pool and rebuild that offensive line. That way you give Rattay more time to develop and you become a running football team until he can take on more responsibility.

#1 on the 49ers list should be finding a way to get rid of their current owner.

will the niners even have enough money to sign a number 1 draft pick?

Once again the niners are going to be in a pickle, they have about 28 million in dead cap space this year, and i believe that it only decreases by 8 or 9 mill in cap space next year, but they do need help anywhere. Since there is no top qb(please linart will suck ass in the pro's), I say trade down for picks and players. They need a CB, an WR of any kind, and huge OL help.

Obviously you haven't seen Rodgers. The guy is seriously awesome. A rifle for an arm, great pocker presence and extremely accurate. He's playing tonight at 8(i think), check him out cause he is definitely the real deal.

Let me warn you that he is playing against a bad defense tonight so i wouldn't be surprised if he threw the ball all over the field.

The niners should go the way of the Atlanta Hawks, trade the #1 pick for multiple lower 1st and 2nd round picks and dump all the cap money they can. They are awful and they will remain awful because they made unbelievably stupid monitary decisions.

Antrell Rolle would be excellent.

Personally I hope my Falcons Draft David Pollack some Offensive Line help and the fastest Wide Reciever they can get. Then I want them to trade Peerless Price to the NY Giants for Will Allen.

Isn't Rattay rather frail? It seemed like he was hurt every other week. It almost seemed like him and Dorsey were just alternating starts.

I don't know if frail is a fair assesment, it's like saying Michael Vick is frail.

Both of those guys were taking hellacious shots, thier offensive line is shit, but they can't sign anyone because of the afformentioned cap hell.

I'm in the consensus here. I'd trade down for multiple picks later in the draft. Then with the picks I'd take the best player available. I wouldn't target any specific position, but just take the best athlete on the board. With as many holes as they have they should worry more about getting athletes than about focusing on a specific position.

Pretty much right. The only "best athlete" I would skip over would be a quarterback.

Contraction.

Just kidding. I think O-line and Defense are the keys. Their QB is not too shabby and with more protection, an offseason acquistion of a RB, and a D, they could be at the minimum better next year.
