OK, I have a card that will allow me to get 20% off of any purchase I make at a local bookstore until this Friday. Any suggestions? Also tell me why I should buy it.

Fairly unbiased. I think you'd have a difficult time using this book to argue that Wal-Mart is the devil or that Wal-Mart is an angel, but it makes a strong case for not ignoring Wal-Mart.
I figure I owe you at LEAST one good favor, so if you promise to send it back when you're done, I'll send you my copy. So, I guess this doesn't help you decide what to buy.

I don't read a lot of books anymore, but this one was quite enlightening:
A very interesting look at a state that has gone from being a hotbed of radical leftism to the reddest of teh red states. The outline for success of the GOP in the past 25 years, and the effect that GOP policy has had on the people who most support the party.

I read it over the summer and enjoyed it immensely, I've recommended it to quite a few people. It uses anthropological evidence to compare great societies of the past with present civilizations to argue that a few common factors contribute to their material declines. Mostly it amounts to patterns of environmental damage, overconsumption, mismanagement of resources, and inability to change values that no longer have any use. Unfortunately, he argues, we have been ignoring a lot of these concerns and they result in various environmental catastrophe and destruction that greatly affects the human population. A few of the cultures that Diamond writes about include the Mayans, the Vikings of Greenland, the Anasazi of New Mexico, Haiti and the Dominican Republic, Rwanda, China, and Australia. The amount of information is incredibly thorough and supports his thesis for greater environmental awareness. He also cites a lot of business and governmental concerns so it's a fairly moderate argument. Great book, totally changed my world-view.

I really enjoyed this book. It breaks down complicated economic ideas and gives really simple examples and explanations for them.
I'd also recommend this:
Though I'm sure it wouldn't get a good reception at this forum. It is of course a fiction book but it brings forth a some good points about global warming and the science behind it.
