I don't know if it's the worst...but Bonfire of the Vanities has to be on the list. This movie is a fucking trainwreck.

According to my wife, it's Empire Falls. She loved, loved, loved the book, and just wouldn't stop about how bad she thought the movie was.

First one that comes to mind is Donnie Brasco. It's my favorite book of all time and although Pacino/Depp did a good job it still didn't do the book justice. It leaves too much out and doesn't show the stress of being undercover for the mob half as well as the book did. The Departed did a better job at showuing it but it still doesn't hold a candle to what Donnie dealt with day in and day out.

but Donnie Brasco, taken by itself, is still a great movie IMO. I agree that the book is better and I was dissapointed quite a bit of it was left out (and certain characters were combined) - but you would have been dealing with a four movie if they had really followed the book. Same thing with Goodfellas...

I remember being dissappointed by the film version of Mystic River. It was still good, but ONLY Sean Penn was great.

The book was a lot lot lot better.

I really enjoyed Stephen King's Dreamcatcher, but the movie was abysmal.

:? That movie was pretty good. It wasn't exactly as the original story told it, but it was good.

But i think it deserved a 4 hour movie. That's how good the book was.

I doubt anyone on this board will stone you to death for this, but perhaps a film historian might.

da vinci code.

if the movie came first, it would be fine. but that book was just too good and meant for the written page.

Wow, really? Because I think that that movie is absolutely amazing. That book is now on my need-to-read list, just so that I can compare the two.

I don't necessarily agree. I think the wrong creative staff put the film together. Ron Howard and Tom Hanks weren't right for Code.

Oh, God, yes. That was my favorite book for a long time, and the movie was unwatchable.
