Would love to see them do silverfuck, with the astoria extensions then an instrumental of the tune that's used for the viewphoria credits and the twilight version of the song, then the twilight ending. Not sure if it would make 20 minutes though, although now they've got Boom, the full version of shine on you crazy diamond would go past the 20 minute mark.

If they cover "I Am One" and do it live Pumpkins circa-1994 style with all of the "gimmegimmegimmegimme nothing" nonsense, it'll surely last 20 minutes.

It wouldn't be very "radio friendly".
I agree, it's not their style, and I can't conceive of it being any good. They aren't a free form jam band, so that type of song won't work. Mike's guitar solo style is more of the intense 1 minute solo style, rather than the jaunting 10 minute solo style. And their songs aren't the kind of songs that allow for variable length solos between each verse, like Neil Young for example who can make any of a couple dozen of his songs sound just as good being four minutes or fourteen minutes depending on his mood that day.
The only type of song I could see Pearl Jam playing out for over ten minutes and having it be really good (and I don't suggest this particular song for a cover) is a song like Jane's Addiction's "Three Days", which is about ten minutes long but has three or four distinct segments that transition into one another as the song progresses. Pearl Jam's songs move forward with a distinct beginning, middle, and end most of the time, and they don't really do the "noodling around a theme" type of songs nearly as well. If they played a song that reaches it's end four minutes into the song, and then they drew it out for 15 minutes of solos and chanting and other extension, I'd just think it was a forced wank.
Besides, wouldn't you rather get 30 songs at a show than 20?
