if martial law should come into effect as a result of this bill, that has the potential to impinge on your personal rights.

Well, the state has the power to declare martial law anyhow, and it's necessary in dire circumstances, but the difference now is it seems this bill will allow the president to declare martial law for the whole country, which is more an issue of federal government vs. state government.

i know i'm drawing a long bow. i'm just frustrated.
as for the states vs feds thing, it's no shock that the federal government is trying to take as much power from the states as they can. same thing's happening here.

it's just that there seems to be a lot of apathy and little outrage.
Perhaps the lack of outrage has something to do with the fact that the steps that the Bush Administration has taken to make the country safer is not very "outrageous." I know there are Liberal Elements that like to compare Bank Data Mining and The Military Commmissions Act as some sort of road to Orwell's 1984, but this is far from reality and hence the lack of outrage.

Pretty much. I think what we need more of is one issue voters: Only support a candidate if they propose the legalization of ferrets.
