how many more of their personal rights will americans allow to be taken from them before they say 'enough is enough'?

if martial law should come into effect as a result of this bill, that has the potential to impinge on your personal rights.

Well, the state has the power to declare martial law anyhow, and it's necessary in dire circumstances, but the difference now is it seems this bill will allow the president to declare martial law for the whole country, which is more an issue of federal government vs. state government.

i know i'm drawing a long bow. i'm just frustrated.
as for the states vs feds thing, it's no shock that the federal government is trying to take as much power from the states as they can. same thing's happening here.

under that logic anything could. this is an issue of states rights and also over who has the power to do this, president or congress.

I haven't read the language in question, but methinks people might be overreacting just a tad.

it's just that there seems to be a lot of apathy and little outrage.

Perhaps the lack of outrage has something to do with the fact that the steps that the Bush Administration has taken to make the country safer is not very "outrageous." I know there are Liberal Elements that like to compare Bank Data Mining and The Military Commmissions Act as some sort of road to Orwell's 1984, but this is far from reality and hence the lack of outrage.

Um, there's a rather important election in 8 days, and if you don't vote, you suck.

Pretty much. I think what we need more of is one issue voters: Only support a candidate if they propose the legalization of ferrets.

Under two years left, we can make it. Just hang on a little bit longer.

That's until the terrorist attack 3 months prior causes us to cancel the election, for the safety of America and continuity of the government.
