i just watched the little acceptance speech on youtube. Never saw it. Very odd. Stone seemed to be a stand-up guy in his short speech. He thanked their families and friends and "Dave Abbruzzese," which McCready gives a little sarcastic laugh to before he says something. I thought him and Dave were close. Starting to think Stone was the only one who liked him and he had to fire him. Shame. Ed's speech is typical Ed. Pretty funny and interesting. Any thoughts on this?

I love it...but then, I happen to agree with Ed about the award.

I've been reexamining old boots from early 94 through mid 95, and falling back in love with that era the way I love the art Neil Young made during his own self destruction. Different, messy, but cathartic.

Well, when you look at past award winners and the absoutley horrible "musicians" that have won than Ed is right. It really doesn't mean anything.

He got a lot of crap for that speech, but I think it was dead on.

I hadn't noticed Mike's reaction to Stone Mentioning Dave before. Guess Mike wasn't a fan either.

These Grammys aired in February 1996, awards for music of 1995.
No Code came out in the last week of August 1996, almost exactly six months later. Jack Irons joined the band in late 1994 and that is who you see in the glasses. (Vitalogy was actually released December 1994). Mike's reaction may have had something to do with the fact that Dave had already been gone for a year and a half at that point and they had done a full year's worth of touring with Jack by then. A lot of time had passed...

I had never actually seen that - only heard audio of Eddie's speech. Stone is a class act for giving the nod to Dave A like that. I am really impressed. Very cool.

Best Hard Rock Performance.

It is actually a pretty respectable category, The Artists who win are often deserving even though the songs chosen are sometimes average.

Past winners in this category include Smashing Pumpkins, Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden, Foo Fighters....

Soundgarden actually won in 1995 and then PJ in 1996 so that might have been why McCready mentioned Alice- Seattle bands won the category back to back years.
