...what song would you want in the trailer? What scenes would you have? Seems like a pretty tall order. I'd make a "sad" trailer with While My Guitar Gently Weeps and a "happy" one with In My Life, and I'd have to include the orchestra recording for A Day in the Life, among many others. This would be a crazy project.

Thoughts?

i'd probably use can't buy me love for the trailer, provided it didn't come off as a rip of hard day's night.

i'd play in my life over the credits... plus imagine what you could do with tomorrow never knows...

...always thought Savoy Truffle would be a good song to be playing during the credits of a movie

a hard days night is awesome. MMT is, well, not so good.

are you talking about the bee gees/peter frampton sgt. peppers movie? if so, well, there's an example of what not to do ;)

there's help! as well, but like AHDT and MMT, those aren't really biopics which i think nate's talking about?

no way could any biopic be better than AHDN though, so it might be a futile exercise. plus who would play them? i dunno... someone might want to jump on the biopic bandwagon with a beatles project i guess.

don't forget yellow submarine and let it be.

i don't think a biopic of the beatles would be very interesting. i'm not the biggest fan of biopics anyway, but focusing on lennon would be the best way to go. i'm not sure ringo or george interest many people at all.

There was a made for tv movie a few years ago that aired on CBS or ABC I think. I think it was a mini-series but I'm not sure. Anyways, I watched it and...eh...it was ok.

Anyways, if they did make one I think the final scene should be John Lennon getting shot. That would be sad as hell.

Yeah, I meant a biopic. You don't think it would be interesting? I don't see how it couldn't be. They have enough history that if you started with The Quarrymen and ended with Lennon's death you could have a very solid film.

And A Day in the Life would have to be the closing credits song, followed by In My Life. It would be amazing.

And you'd have to have a great director (preferable me in twenty years) who would really research it and make it top notch. None of this money grubbing crap.

This should never ever happen. The Beatles should never sell themselves to the Couch-Potato army. If this happened then it'd be proof that the entertainment industry has no soul.

As much as I love movies, and as much as I love The Beatles, for some reason I don't want a Beatles biopic. I think it's mostly because I don't trust the studios with something like this, they'd do it for all the wrong reasons. No doubt the marriage of music and film in this case would be complete bliss for this filmgoer, but at the same time I'd rather the songs lived their own life in my head and heart. Plus there are plenty of great Beatles books out there. A movie would feel, I don't know, fake. I'm probably making no sense here.

But Milos Forman would be a great director for it. :D

And yeah, In My Life over the closing credits. i can just picture/hear it. The final shot fades out, the guitar riff plays through twice over a pitch black screen, and as the first vocals come in, we're treated to a real-footage montage of Beatles memories as the credits roll.

wasnt this a fictional story, speculating how the final day that paul and john would have spent together in John's NY apt?

I think this was aired on VH1 sometime in 2000, or maybe even late in 1999...

Yeah, it was called the Beatles Anthology. It kills any film that could ever be made about them.

Yeah, but none of this means it would be good. The history of biopics isn't really a display of good films, though even the worst ones (a beautiful mind?) seem to get creamed over by "The Academy." They're almost always fluff or heavy handed. How many biopics have actually been compelling as a film? I can't remember the last one. Even the Cash one, as interesting as it was, was a sanitized sunday school version of the reality.

Just trying to think of biopics as great films, the only one that comes to mind is the elephant man, which is a far cry from a beatles movie. I think the fact the Beatles was made up of four distinct individuals puts the nail in the coffin. There's no way to do justice to four lives (two of which haven't even ended, yet) in 3 hours. Then you have George Martin, who should get at least as much focus as Ringo.

But I do think a Lennon biopic could turn out ok. Maybe that's because he's the only one who interests me as a human being. I really couldn't care less about learning more about Paul freaking McCartney.
