I just saw closer with Julia Roberts, Natalie Portman, and Jude Law. Wasnt it once at a NC-17 rating, if not I would be quite suprised. The language alone was like listening to a porn. I liked the movie, but found it slow in the begining.

Still needs the Natalie Portman nudity in it, methinks.

But it was still a good flick.
Nothing I'd rush out to buy on DVD, however.

It surprised me how good it was. Natalie Portman is so much better in this than she was in Garden State. It was interesting how much she reminded me of Julia Roberts in some scenes (ie her intonation when she says, "lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off, but it's better when she does").

I don't want to spoil it for anyone but the ending kind of reminded me of The Usual Suspects.

I would really reccomend it.

Maybe the DVD will be worth it if bonus scenes include Portman nudity!

There have been 3 threads about this film and the only discussion in each thread has been about whether or not we will ever see Natalie's nude scenes.

What did everyone think about the movie?

The film only just opened here last week.

God, I can't believe so many people just keep fixating on this nudity thing. If you want nudity, it's quite easy. It's all over the net.

A solid 7. Nothing groundbreaking, and it seemed quite clear in some scenes that it'd work much better on stage rather than on the silver screen. Jude Law and Natalie Portman I thought were good, but it's clearly Clive Owen who owned the film. Which would seem right considering he played the same role in the play. Julia Roberts I thought was a casting mistake- if they need to go after an actress with some reputation, who's around Julia Roberts' age, I reckon they should've gone for Helena Bonham Carter.

I noticed at the end, when The Blowers Daughter was playing into the credits, the line "till I find somebody new" was purposely cut out :)

Closer today. Sideways tomorrow, Aviator later in the week, Million Dollar Baby next week, and Hotel Rwanda shortly. Surely there's got to be a 9 in there somewhere.

So I'm a little late, which is usual with most movies. I greatly enjoyed this film. I thought Portman was fantastic. The characters really lured me in, yet appalled me. Good stuff. As for the whole nudity issue (which seems to be a necessary discussion) I feel seeing her partially undressed just adds to the intrigue. However, I prefered in Garden State.

I agree. It's like this board is full of horny teenagers. I really like the opening scene of the movie. The music and the images were perfect together.

There are a few

I have to check out Sideways soon.

Saw Closer last night, My mind was awash with the different themes from the movie but I have to say the beginning and the end, just beautiful. When Natalie Portman and Jude Law walk into the courtyard of a random complex and read the names of people that have saved the lives of individuals on the side of a building at the start of the movie and then at the end, Jude Law, sullen and dejected, walks into that same complex and finds the character’s name that Natalie Portman played, written on the wall and then the Damien Rice starts up, talk about heavy.

I enjoyed the movie but wasn't blown away. I was quite surprised by some of the stuff Jude Law's character was typing when he was pretending to be Julia Robert's character in that internet chatroom. I actually had to pull the dvd out of the player and see what it was rated....

I agree it could/should have been NC-17

It had 0.0 plot.

I also didn't like how they cut out the last line in "The Blower's Daughter", which is stupid because it would've fit perfectly within the movie's context.

The cybersex scene had me laughing, though.

She saved Jude Law's character, breathed life into him if you will, for at the beginning he was dead, writing the Obituaries for a local newspaper.
