I LOVE this movie. I can safely say that is the single most psychologically frightening/disturbing film I have ever seen.

"You maniacs! You blew it up! Oh, damn you! God damn you all to hell!"

The most horrifying moment in cinema history. 100% serious.

agreed.

the thought of that is kinda killing my overwhelming compulsion to litter this thread with more references to "Stop the Planet of the Apes, I Want To Get Off!"

The only moment that makes POTA seem kind of silly for me is that awful "It's a madhouse! A MADHOUSE!" *shudder*

this movie proved that racism exists in most everyone

during the shooting of the film, during breakfast/lunch/dinner breaks, something very peculiar (sp) was noticed by the directors and even some of the actors.

all the people playing humans ate together in one section, all the apes ate in another section, all the chimps in one section and so on

people do tend to stick with similar looking people, whether on purpose or not

it might have been for other reasons though, eg. the people playing apes had more scenes together, got to know each other better, and therefore sat together because they became friends.

maybe they gravitated to others playing similar roles to compare notes or something. i'm not saying what you said is wrong, just pointing out other possible mitigating factors because it's not all black and white :)

were they eating lunch in costume?

i believe it was in costume, for the simple fact it was expensive and a long drawn out process back then

as far as the sequels go, i remember crying myself to sleep after seeing escape from the planet of the apes and cornelius and zira baby was muttering, momma....momma

the others i dont really recall per se, but i know i have seen them all

I've seen one...there was some guy fighting an ape and he accidentally killed it or something...I don't know. I seem to remember finding out it was TV something or other...I don't know. I think I remember liking it.

Yeah, that didn't help at all.

Oh wait! I also remember seeing an offical sequel set in an ape city. I mean, like, a futuristic city. I liked that one too. I remember it being all political with riots in the streets and whatnot.
