i think of that line meaning somewhere close to the canadian border, like bellingham or something else north of seattle.

Yeah, it always seemed to conjure up a smaller town to me as well.

I always thought it was talking about Seattle. That just makes sense to me, but who knows.

Seattle was the first thing that popped into my mind when I heard the song. I mean... it's on the west coast... it's directly south of the northern border...

This (along with Otherside) is perhaps my favorite song on Lost Dogs. I play it on repeat so much at work, my co-worker sings along now.

I think it's definitely Seattle. I agree a smaller town suits the song better, but the last two lines scream Seattle. I live really close to Seattle so I get all their radio stations and I've just always had the impression that Seattle is very snoby about Pearl Jam, like they don't want to be associated with them. I'm sure that's totally wrong and there's tons huge fans there, but from growing up listening to all these stations that's the vibe I got.

Last year, we drove up from Seattle to Vancouver for the show, and we discovered this I guess pirate radio station that was playing lost dogs. It took about an hour to get across the border and just as the line "just south of the northern border" came on... we crossed over. It was so cool. 8)
