After the 5 against 1 fiasco ( I bought the book years ago just to find out it was a piece of crap) I though about the idea of compiling PJ related events, information about song writing process, lyric meaning (the ones that the band have given us in one way or another) and so on…. I just didn’t have the time and the resources to do it

Now that the interweb is what it is…. wouldn’t be great if the RM community got together to create the Ultimate PJ Book? Kind of a Wikipedia + Concert Chronology + FAQ + Interviews and News all as one comprehensive searchable resource!

Seems like we (the fans) know almost everything there is to know about the band and more. Wouldn’t be nice if we put all the bit and pieces together?

I don’t have any specific idea on the how, the format, the content or anything….just food for thoughts …..who is with me?

Well, it's not the worst idea I've heard today... Tough it would be a lot of work! I'll lend a hand in the work of putting things together!

its gonna be tough for us to agree on a line not to cross in regards to their, meaning eddie vedder's, personal life.

especially because that seems to be the thing most people are interested in.......only because those are kinda of the things that most fans don't know

the one thing i liked about 5 against 1 was the little stories of the writer when they were with ed, mainly that story about him climbing the building to get that light

this sounds like a great idea but it should be saved for once the band is done... 50 years from now.

call me crazy, but id much rather hear about what they do in the studio and the song writing process than what eddie vedder does in his spare time

Yeah, but we'd all also disagree on what was taboo. Like, would we mention those things on there?

The folks that might be interested in this book would be the ones creating it. i think it's a bad idea. Go to the book store and look at the "definitive" books on bands. Bad idea.

I have never understood why people dislike 5 against 1. Fucking Caryn Rose gave it a bad review back in the day and that seemed to influence a lot of people but otherwise I can't see any fan not liking it.

To the best of my knowledge and recollection every single word of it is true. You will not find a better biography of the band.

why does/did everyone hate caryn rose? she always responded politely to any inquiries i sent her. what's up with all the animosity towards her?

can we steer back off caryn rose? it's a guaranteed way to get the thread locked.

i think people's criticism of 5v1 was that it focused a lot on the early years and the entire middle section was just Ed's background. That's fine if that's what you say the book is, but the book was dubbed a band biography, so having it be overly weighted with those 2 pieces and totally gloss over vs, vitalogy and no code doesn't make it an even retrospective.

also, why write a book where there's wikijam?

I am not trying to say anything bad about Caryn. It just always annoyed me that people were so heavily influenced by her opinions -which shows were the best, who was the best drummer, what songs were good and what songs sucked...

I disagree that the book is all about Eddie. And I think it represents fair and accurate reporting. It is a BIOGRAPHY of the band, warts and all. Should she not have talked about Mike's drinking either since that is too "personal"?
There is some really great stuff in there about the rise of the band and the Seattle scene of the early 90s. I especially love the stuff about the first Eurpopean tour.

I also disagree with the notion that the current fans know almost everything there is to write a better book than 5v1. That may be a true statement about the 2000-2006 era and to that end it would be a great concept. But lots of people on this board and other internet sites don't seem to know much not about the band's history at all. If there was a class on PJ history I think Cameron Crowe's Rolling Stone article and Kim Neely's 5 Against 1 book would have to be required reading.

someone on this board is writing a book on Pearl Jam lyrics. If she finsihes it should be a fun read. A lot of us are quoted in it :)

what about a "Fan book" focusing on some of the people who have grown up with, cried with and loved the band.
I could write a chapter on how I am where I am in many ways thanks to the band.
