A opponent needs a Center.

I'm thinking of trading him Amare and Ben Gordon for Vince Carter and Chris Webber. Then I would dump Webber and pick up Andrew Bynum (I already have Chris Bosh, Kaman, and Mehmet Okur at C).

Whaddya think? Carter's on a contract year and putting up monster numbers. Gordon is so streaky, and no one knows if Amare will be the same.

Vince Carter's going to be insane this year. Gordon never puts up great all-around numbers; he's an incredible asset to a team in real life, but I've never seen someone get too much good use out of him on a fantasy team. Amare might be a risky trade to make, but you're right, it's tough to say whether or not he'll be that great.

I'd do it.

Because it's you, I'll do it.

Have you watched either of the last two Suns games? Amare's looking alot like the Amare of old, and they're playing him alot to get him in shape. I'd hold off on that one for a few weeks... Amare's already putting up better numbers than Bynum.

I'd rather have Carter than Amare, this season at least.

Well, it depends on what position you need... You're right, this season Carter's going to score more, but I can see Amare getting 20ppg within a couple of months.

I guess I've just never really trusted Carter to play hard every night, but the contract will make a difference I suppose...

Oh, he absolutely does not give it his all every night. He decides what nights he'll be on and when he's going to take it easy. That's perhaps the most frustrating part about having a player like that; with guys like Iverson, they're immensely talented and give it their all every night, it's sometimes just not enough. With Carter, you never know whether he has enough to win a game for you because he's got a lot of untapped potential. Bill Simmons said this all in a recent article, and it's absolutely true. I've never seen someone have such a pronounced on/off switch in basketball.

But, like has been said, if there's one thing that will get him focused on putting up pure numbers, it's the prospect of more cash.

Not including tonight's game, Carter has averaged 27 points, 7.7 boards and 4 assists per game for the first three games of the season. Add to that tonight's performance of 33 points (admittedly, only 3 rebounds, but still), and he's certainly off to a great start. If he can keep playing at a level that's even close to this good, I'd much rather have him on my team than about 90% of the NBA players out there.

But, as you said, it comes down to what each specific team needs. I personally feel that Carter makes any differences between Bynum and Amare negligible. Bynum's young; he's going to have games in which he's great (20 points, 3 blocks, 14 boards against Minnesota the other night) and other games where he's shut down, but I think having Odom and Kobe around him can only help his odds.

I don't know much about basketball, but I thought the title said "Should I make this thread?" and at the time it seemed like a pretty pointless question given that the thread was already made, but it peaked my curiosity.
