...the way it sounds, or the way it makes you feel?...

nice topic...

i think it has to be both. Ultimately the way it sounds makes me feel music like no other band has ever done, and probably never will...

but a few songs make me feel more even though they probably don't sound as good as others...so I'll go with feeling. songs like in my tree, given to fly, lukin, solat, comeback & black

ya pretty vauge, good topic though. since their music is so varied cd by cd.

but I suppose ill give it a shot. my response to their music is that on the whole i find it pretty theraputic. more so on an album like yield and even binaural. riot act on the whole makes me derpessed, even though there are some very 'up' songs. albums like vitalogy and avacado elicit a great deal of tension, rightfully so, good music for working out too.

Both at different times. Fact is, I absolutely love the music, and sometimes I just like to listen to it, and appreciate it as its given to me. An awesome guitar solo or a cool riff or Ed's vocal range. But sort of like someone said, this band reaches me at a level that no other artist ever has. And I have those moments, usually inspired by Ed, in which I feel so strongly about the band and their music, it becomes about more than just the notes theyre hitting, but something really exciting and sometimes emotional.

Totally the way it makes me feel. There's been Pearl Jam for most of my life- pretty much all of my life that I've been aware of music. And I've always got that to go back to. Every song off Vs. has some sort of significance for me, and it's all a very internal thing.

If I want to listen to something that'll intrigue me sonically, I'll put on Radiohead. If I want to clear out my emotions, it's always Pearl Jam. Immortality, Dissident, Leash, Last Exit, Nothingman, so many others from that era just hit me the same way every time I hear them. I think I could be going through a total breakdown, and Long Road would bring me back to zero.

no...i think he is every pj fan...imho :D
there is no other and has been no other band that has and still does touch me the way pj does...and theres just no splainin it...its the intangable aspect of pearl jam and of course eds lyrics and emotive vocals that no other band can even come close to...of course ask a huge fan of neil young or many other artists and youd probably get a similiar response...or maybe not...but if so then they just dont get it and thats their loss!! ha!

There was a time a few years ago when i was pretty depressed. I didn't do anything go anywhere, nor did I want to. I had lost interest in pretty much everything and was never happy, this was a very bad time for me.

With hindsight the only thing that I would enjoy and look forward too was listen to Pearl Jam, I think it would have been a worse situation if I could listen to the music. I think the reason for this is that the music struck the right emotions in me to feel like it made sense, it was just 'right'. The music would grab my attention and I would feel OK.

I like lyrics, which is how I found this website in the year 2000. 6 years strong... Scott would be proud.
