I occasionally post on an Ohio State board. They have a point system where you can give or take points based on what you think of people's posts. There's a dude who consistently takes points from me and makes snide comments in private messages without EVER engaging me in debate on the public board.

I just want to say how cool it is to post on a board where everyone debates hard, backs up their arguments, and only occasionally breaks down into personal attacks.

Huzzah, News & Debate, huzzah!

I haven't found it to be all that difficult to ignore people with my own brain.

If you want to start a thread and present some evidence of your accusations, why don't you do that without derailing my thread ... perhaps even in the sports forum.

If you run FireFox there is an extension which lets you block other users on phpBB (the software this forum runs). It is pretty helpful

Helpful in what way? I mean, so that you can ignore what people who disagree with you have to say? Does it make pages load faster? Does it increase the quality of the board by not displaying Pete's posts as opposed to simply not reading them? I don't get it.

If there's people whose posts I don't care to read, it is pretty simple to plop them on that least and you don't have to see what they write. I mean, it is really easy to ignore them on your own, but we live in a fancy internet world (read: tube) so someone came up with this so that our computers can do it for us. I mean, I guess if someone disagreed with you, you could use it, but I think that is pretty weak on your part. If I ran in to the someone who went for the incessent personal sniping, this is a pretty great way to get rid of them. It does make pages load faster (especially if they post loads of pictures). I guess you could use it to sculpt your own ideal RM if you want, by filtering out the people you don't want to hear from (personally I'd rather not, but maybe someone does).

I think the driving impetus behind this was people who hang around just to shit things up and stir up trouble and be annoyances (like trolls, and semi-permanent residences who are essentially trolls), not to ignore people who don't agree with you, although I'm sure that would lead to a REALLY fucking boring forum
