This is a real shame. One of the most important directors of the '70's. R.I.P. Mr. Altman.

very sad. At his best, he was possibly the best director since you-know-who.

What's everyone's favorite Altman flick? I liked the Player.

I can honestly say I've never seen any of his films nor have I had a BURNING desire to see one.

Actually maybe I've seen Gosford Park but I don't recall being wowed.

Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I can't choose between that and Short Cuts. I don't know. I love them both.

I haven't seen A Prairie Home Companion yet, but after hearing about the Departed, I dreamed of having Scorcese and Altman both be nominated for Best DIrector in the same year. It's sad to hear that he died, but I'm glad he got the Oscar that he did last year. R.I.P.
The football scene in MASH is one of the funniest scenes in any movie I've ever seen.

This whole thing really adds an entirely new dimension to APHC. The themes of death have a whole new poignance now.

I just saw my first Altman film (Short Cuts) about a week ago, and I loved it. I put a shitload of his films in my Netflix queue, so I'll have to pay tribute in the coming weeks. I'm sad that I'll never have a chance to work with him, apparently he was pretty much the most actor-friendly director in history.

Rest in peace.
