How long is it safe to leave them in for? Could I just leave it USB'd into my computer all the time? Or is it better for me to turn it off?

I think it depends on the device. I have a USB hard drive that's like a stove if I leave it on for too long. But I also have a USB DVD burner that's like a cooler.

I turn off my devices because the fans keep me up at night, even though they aren't loud, they still get on my nerves.
