What do you think would give or gives Matt the best sound with Pearl Jam?

Be honest.

Honestly, I'm going to go with well-tuned Ayottes. I'm listening to Binaural and Yield-era recordings and he sounded so great on those.

The Yamaha's are alright, but I hope when his sponsorship is up, he can move on to better sounding drums.

God bless,

Jared

When I saw them in 98 I believe he was playing DW. From the boots from that year that I have heard I think they sound the best. The Yamaha's need to go.

I'm loving this thread! I thought from the very first time that I heard Matt moved to Yamaha that he was making a huge mistake. The tone quality of his toms are unbearable and he's known for his tom work and all the unbelievable fills, so if you can't even hear him, what's the point! They're just so dull and flat...it sounds like crap and it makes me sad because people can't hear very well some of the amazing things he does. I really wish he would change back so that people could hear him better. Plus it would be a quality upgrade since Yamaha sucks. I love Jared's comment about the "well-tuned Ayottes". I love listening to '98 and '00 recordings just to hear him drum. For one, you can actually hear the definition between toms, and it's almost like he's playing another melodic instrument instead of just drums because of how well they're tuned and how amazing the tone quality of Ayotte toms are. I think a drummer of his caliber should have high quality equipment anyway...he's a living legend for chris'sakes. :)

yea i love jack irons' sounds and techinque on yield more so than on no code...better than how matt played em live.....

but the drums on lo2l are better than on some of the 2000 boots (i.e. las vegas his drums sounded like crap imo)....

but 2003 took it up a notch.

Live recordings also have a lot to do with how the kit is miked and what gates/compressors they are running the kick/snare/hihat through - even if a kit it could sound completely different when miked. That being said I don't think there have been any crew changes lately?

Whatever he played on Black Hole Sun... I think they were Yamaha... that was my favorite all time Matt Cameron sound.

He should get some octobons and granite blocks and spice things up a bit.
