After pondering this question for a good while, I have come to the conclusion that Kiss is the worst band in rock history. I can't see how people ever bought into this garbage unless you were 5 years old when they were popular and they looked like some kind of fucked up Star Wars characters on stage holding guitars. Everybody argues they are so great because they have one of the most amazing stage shows ever...but so what, Ashlee Simpson has fireworks and flames and she sucks. If you stack Kiss up against all of the other big-time bands from the 70's they sound like they belong in a dive bar somewhere in Nebraska. I could write songs as corny as theirs, and about the only one that deserves any kind of credit is the one written by the drummer.
I was riding down the road yesterday, and they came on the radio, and I almost had to puke out the window. If it wasn't for Gene Simmons and the rest of them stumbling into a Wal-Mart sometime before or a little after Halloween 35 years ago they would probably all be changing oil right now.

I've been a huge Kiss fan since 1976, and I'll admit I can understand why a lot of people think they suck. They have put out a lot of crap over the years. Even on the "classic" albums, some of the filler is embarrassing.
Gene and Paul have turned the band into a joke these past few years by putting Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer in Peter and Ace's makeup and trying to fool the casual fans into thinking it's really Kiss. If they would have really quit after the supposed farewell tour in 2000 that would have been fine.
But there is no denying they put on an awesome live show. The original reunion show I saw in 1996 was the best concert I will ever go to.

Everytime I think of Kiss, I think of that video they did when they first took off their makeup. The way they looked so damn funny walking down the street singing "Lick it up, lick it up...oohhh ohhh!"
This is my kinda thread. I just never quite understood how these guys had so many fans. I mean the makeup and fire and spitting blood is cool when you're 11, but the music is just awful.

I used to be a huge KISS fan from the time Psycho Circus came out untill a little after their first farewell tour. They still have some good songs, but my favorites are somewhere between their singles and filler. Songs like Goin Blind and Black Diamond are just amazing, while I cant help but laugh at something like Rock and Roll all Night or Ladies Room
I think the only one of thier albums I can listen to the whole way through anymore is Hotter Than Hell.
Oh, and the only two members of the band that I have any respect for are the ones that arent in it.

KISS was the first band I ever liked. I was 3 years old, maybe 4, when I started liking them.
These days, the only thing that can redeem KISS in my eyes is a brand new studio album. I'm really sick and tired of the non-stop greatest hits or compilations. Unless it has unreleased material on it, I don't buy it.
And as I've been telling people for years, the 2000 "farewell" tour was truly the farewell tour..... for the original lineup at least.
I don't mind Singer and Thayer being in the band, just give them new makeup. Or better yet, take the makeup off and get Bruce Kulick back in the band. I'll dig seeing Stanley, Simmons, Kulick, and Singer putting out another Revenge-type album. That album was easily KISS' highlight. Less about the image and more about the music.

they suck so bad. I went to see AIC open up for them, got front row and even had a moment with layne. I decided to stay for KISS and left after about a half hour. so awful.
