if members of pj get at least one cent per sale, that's some nice extra cash ;)

That rate gives them about $65,000 each for all those albums.

31 mill is quite a milestone.

i'm kind of surprised RVM isn't selling more, it's a pretty good beginners package for the listener whom has interest in buying an album but can't pick one.

I'm surprised that vs. sold so much less in comparison to Ten in total. I still remember the hype when "PJ's new album after the breakthrough" was released. I would have thought the difference to be smaller.

nope.

but if you're interested pearl jam (the album) has sold around 1.5 million albums worldwide

which makes it one of the best selling rock albums of this year.

to put their sales in context:
stadium arcadium - 5 million
10,000 days - 2.5 million
the open door 2.5 million
modern times 1.9 million
sams town 2 million
first impressions of earth 1.2 million
a matter of life and death 1 million
we shall overcome 1.8 million
the black parade 1 million

all these figures are from http://www.mediatraffic.de

Wasn't Ten given the diamond award for having sold more than ten million copies?

Something's wrong here.

FYI, Stadium Arcadium is a double disc, so the sales statistics are always doubled. In reality, it sold 2.5 mill in comparison to the other albums.

I don't think Stadium has sold a million units yet in the US, it's still considered platinum X1 on the Billboard charts, which is 500,000+ for a double album.

Maybe so, but I thought those were worldwide figures that keyser listed?

those figures must be North America only because ive read many times that the worldwide figures for "Ten" are around 16-18 million

Sales aren't doubled for numbers like these on double-discs...that only happens for certification purposes. S.A. has in fact moved 5 million copies worldwide. It's been a huge hit.

It's interesting that, except for Ten, Pearl Jam's back catalogue sales are well below a lot of other career artists of comparitive, or even smaller, size. Most of their catalogue sells like the Talking Heads' records do. It'll be interesting how time effects this, especially as the band has become more and more popular with critics.

And also, although I was among the most skeptical early on, I couldn't help but notice the massive number of complaints around the web on popular music message boards regarding Pearl Jam's lack of inclusion in the Grammy list, so maybe there's something to the heavy-download theory.
