One of my obsessions with PJ is finding stories from older fans who went to PJ shows in the early days of PJ's career.
After not knowing any fans who went to the CBGB '91 show, or any of the acoustic in-store shows, I met 4 fans in the span of about 4 days who *all* went to the CBGB show, the Yonkers Tower show, all the Roseland shows, and an in-store in NJ that I hadn't even heard about. As a bonus, two of them even had pictures from CBGB+NJ and master videos of Yonkers+NJ. For detail, the fan who contacted me about Yonkers was the freakin general manager of the store! Amazing.
I've posted this time capsule, including some embedded YouTube videos. Enjoy!

When I found out many years later about that Tower Records show in Yonkers, I nearly shit myself. I practically lived in that store when I was in high school, but in addition to not really being aware of Pearl Jam until a couple months later, I had just started college and was two hours away when it happened. That's my "I wish I could have been there" show of all time.

this is a great great story and write up. thanks so much JR! I love all your stuff at TFT.
ps. does the full video (or audio) of the newly unearthed Menlo Park in-store exist? If so, is there a possibility it could be shared? I'd love to hear Alive without any drums at all.
thanks again for this great story!

Thanks! Unfortunately, the Menlo video there is 100% of what I have. Honest. If you listen close at the end of the meet-n-greet video, you can hear the taper going "oh man, i'm running out of battery". That's why he's only got a little bit of Porch and a little bit of the meet-n-great.

the concert list and review has sucked since you guys took over.
Yeah, I guess that when the review writers aren't moved to tears by every pearl jam song and setlist, the writing suffers a bit.

Thank you, I'll be here all week.
Great article, as always, JR.
those reviews used to freak me out a bit. Was I a bad fan when brain of J didn't make me weep?
