A while ago I posted up here asking for suggestions for a year top 10 list. i got a lot of good feedback. As a result I purchased the Elliot Smith CD, which I loved. Check out the official Whatcharockin.com 24 albums to buy from 2004 at: http://www.whatcharockin.com/feature-2404.asp

My personal top ten ended up being:

(read explanations at: http://www.whatcharockin.com/feature-2404-mg.asp)

10: Elliot Smith, From a Basement on a Hill
9: Steve Earle, The Revolution Starts . . . Now
8: Nas, Streets Desciple
7: TV on the Radio, Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes
6: Pearl Jam, Live at Banaroya Hall
5: Jay Farrar, Stone, Steel, and Bright Lights
4: The Roots, the Tipping Point
3: Kanye West, The College Drop Out
2: Wilco, A Ghost is Born
1: Mos Def, The New Danger

Honorable mention: Ghostface, Madvillian, Air, Talib Kweli

Let me know what ya'll think.

doesn't he get all of his credit for being a producer? i'm really not into him, but i thought he produced more that rapped, producing is where the $$ is at, jsut look at lil' jon, he gets millions to say "Yeah" and "What?"

That's about the most accurate comment I've ever heard.

A Ghost is Born is painfully overrated.

Jay Farrar's Stone Steel and Bright Lights was cool

I liked the two new songs and he does a kick ass version of like a hurricane. Would have loved to hear them (him and canyon) stretch it out like neil does live but thats okay.

AGIB was probably my fav album of the year.

I ignored all the hype about Kanye West at the beginning , but after seeing College Dropout on a bunch of top 10 lists I hate to hear it. I was really impressed with this record. It isn't all the same typical bling bling shit that is so popular now. There are some great samples on this and smart lyrics. Listen to something before you say you hate it.

the reason i hate it is b/c ive listened to it. he does nothing for me. i give him credit for being a good producer, but i think he should stick to that and not rap. i also think his popularity is b/c of his rep. as a producer, not b/c he's a good rapper.

i think kanye is amazing...
i don't listen to a lot of rap/hip hop but there are some who really catch my attention... kanye is one of them b/c he's not doing the same thing that it seems every other rapper is doing these days.

The Tipping Point is one of the most disappointing albums I've ever bought.
