Rap Kid Rock inaugural pick

BY MAKI BECKER
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Conservative Christians are flabbergasted about reports that raunchy rock-rapper Kid Rock will perform at a youth concert at the presidential inauguration.

"What in the world are these people thinking?" asked Donald Wildmon, chairman of the American Family Association in Tupelo, Miss. "This is the biggest slap in the face to the Christian conservatives."

Kid Rock reportedly will perform at "America Rocks Today: A Call to Service," a multimedia concert.

Bush's daughter Barbara is the event's co-managing director.

But Kid Rock doesn't exactly seem like her dad's kind of guy.

The almost-34-year-old Detroit bad boy is currently dating porn actress Jessie James, never goes anywhere without a pint of bourbon in his back pocket and rattles off X-rated lyrics that regularly earn his albums parental advisory warnings.

At the same time, he's a die-hard Republican and a big fan of Dubya. He put on a concert during last summer's Republican convention at the Manhattan nightclub Avalon - which the Bush twins attended.

But Kid Rock has a funny way of showing his support.

In his 2001 song "You Never Met a Motherf---er Quite Like Me," he boasts, "I Met the President when I was half-stoned."

And back in 1990 - when President Bush's father was in the White House and his mother, Barbara, was First Lady - Kid Rock sang: "Pimp of the Nation, I could be it/ As a matter of fact, I forsee it/ But only pimpin hoes with the big tush/ While you be left pimpin Barbra Bush."

"Boy," Wildmon admonished. "Where I come from, you talk about my mama like that, those are fightin' words. Shooting words!"

Inauguration planners seemed to be backpedaling yesterday about the event following a call from the Daily News. "Kid Rock has not been confirmed," insisted Tracey Schmitt, a spokeswoman from the Presidential Inaugural Committee. "But I can tell you Hilary Duff has been confirmed, as has JoJo."

Schmitt added, "There's no greater defender of family values than President Bush."

OMG an entertainer uses dirty words and has a schtick?

Kid Rock is an excellent father. His life revolves around being a father. He tours when school is out, he takes his kids on tour with him. He's about as ideal a father as a rock star could be.
What he says isn't nearly as important as what he does. Eddie Vedder says a lot of dumb shit too, but he's not going to get crucified here.

To be as good of a father as he is? Yeah, exactly.

How is it any different for anyone caring about Vedder's political leanings? Zoinks.

Because LIBERALS aren't offended by Eddie Vedder.

It's like when Howard Stern or Larry Flynt starts campaigning for a Democrat and they're like, "Um, thanks for your support, but could you please leave, like, yesterday?"

Ah yes. Perhaps Ed and troop should head over the the Middle East and put on free concerts for the troops, as Kid Rock has done.

Perhaps they should. They've never shown anything but support for the troops.

That is fine if they want too.

Personally, I'm never really that moved by entertainers doing this type of thing with the advent of a professional army.

They are not conscripts anymore. It is their job.

Why not have Pearl Jam perform for a group of grocers at a store then?

Kid Rock may be great or bad, I don't really care. Whether he is a porn star or entertainer for troops, nothing really sways my complete apathy about this man.

Grocers (usually) are not targeted by mortars every afternoon.

Depends on the neighborhood.

So since the troops are just "doing their job", we shouldn't really appreciate them or do anything out of the ordinary to honor them? They're no more honorable than a grocer? My grandpa was in the Navy and then a grocer for 40 years, I guess I'll ask him.

Thats why I said (usually), we could be speaking of Detroit. Maybe thats why Kid Rock went to Iraq, it was much more pleasant.

I don't think so.

They CHOOSE to fight (not conscripted) and get paid to do it as a job.

If they die, they have put themselves there and readily accept it.

That is why they are in the military.

There are many jobs that are dangerous, but all are done by choice and are paid.

That is why I question "support our troops" or "protect our fighting people", because in reality, they are there under their own volition.

If they were FORCED or drafted, then this would make sense. But since they are their because they want to be, then it does not.

If they die, that may be sad for some, but to that soldier it is a risk they agree to take. A grocer could also die at work, but it is far less likely.

Just because their job involves killing people and getting killed does not, to me, make any difference. If they do not want to die, then they could CHOOSE a different job.

They are no more useful than the rest of us. We all have jobs to do.

Support everyone.

I will also add that I respect the troops as much as I respect anyone else doing a job.

Troop = Grocer = Programmer = President = Construction Worker = Cobbler

etc etc etc.

They are all just doing their job that they are paid to do. I hope that ALL are successful at it.

But to say that I support one over another is ridiculous.
