I think he's a top 10 coach in the league.
I've seen you blast him in some other thread, Clubber, but as I said earlier, I think Bill Polian is the real problem that needs to be disposed of in Indianapolis. He has continuously been giving Dungy players that build (especially on defense) as a heavily speed-oriented team. As a result, they are usually undersized players and can't hold up to a 16-game schedule plus a long playoff run. Bob Sanders is a great example--a very talented player, but he can't stay consistently healthy.
The Colts need to build a defense that's more well-rounded in size and strength. One thing that would help encourage that is if they stopped playing indoors. Isn't their new stadium going to have a retractable roof? If so, they should just keep that roof open at all times.

great regular season coach, terrible playoff coach.
regular season he's weird. this season he obviously concentrated on the run-game, wheras the Colts dominated with the passing game in previous years. I really like how he keeps his cool and sticks to business.

I don't think Polian has carte-blanche over all the defensive players drafted and picked up through FA. I thik Dungy has a big say in it and it has bitten him in the ass. You can't play fucking Cover 2 without at least 2 very good linebackers. The colts have NONE. Polian got rid of Edge James and it was a great move. Addai is great and has fresh legs for the playoffs. James would always run out of gas by week 14. Plus he got Vinaterri for like 1 million more than the Pats offerred. He sighned Reggie Wayne instead pf paying Edge(which totally was the right choice) and he kept Freeney unsigned cause he knew he could get him cheaper if Freeney had a bad year(which he's had). Polian is the best GM in the league, hands down. The problem is fucking Dungy and his stubborness with cover 2. You have speedy defenders all over the field. Let them go and get the QB. Make it the fucking Galnville Falcs defense at this point! You have the worst run defense in the history of the NFL! The Colts punted once the other day against the Texans! Once! Peyton had no INT's! How is he getting heat from the press!?! Dungy should take the fucking blame and the fact that his kid didn't want to hear his "father of the year" crap probably has something to do with Dungy not getting any heat for this bullshit of a defense he puts on the field

Does Dungy share a part of the GM role, then? Who has the final say over which players are brought in?
I agree keeping Wayne and letting Edge walk was a smart move, especially when the drafted Addai. However, I have a feeling that all that money they've sunk into Peyton, Reggie, and Marvin is going to bite them back when their cap room shrinks.

The Bucs figured out why they couldn't get over the top, if the Colt's want to win a Super Bowl they need to realize that they have the same problem. How come Manning gets all the heat for being a choke in the playoffs when Dungy's teams repeatedly look unprepared and unmotivated in playoff games? Dungy is a media darling and people are scared to rip the guy when he deserves it.

Club, your experiencing what I myself did not so long ago....the most prolific offense in the NFL on one side and the worst sorriest defense in the world on the other. Ans sure, we all blamed Mike Martz and ran him out of town, and look where the Rams are without Mad Mike: a probowl QB, RB, and TWO probowl WRs, and a boring uninspired offense and a big sack of shit pussy defense.
I feel for you man, I do. I wouldnt blame Dungy, you never know how good a guy was until hes o-u-t

I think he's half a football coach.
His teams' offenses always end up getting shut down in the playoffs, whether his QB is Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson or Peyton Manning. I don't feel that's a coincidence. I also don't think it's a coincidence that the Bucs won the Super Bowl immediately after they got rid of Dungy in favor of a coach who was good at offense. I would bet that he defers completely to Tom Moore and Manning when it comes to the offense. That's a terrible mistake because the system clearly isn't working in the playoffs. Every year it's the same thing - the o-line turns into a turnstyle, Peyton gets happy feet, they abandon the run and stubbornly try to pass even at times where it's obvious they can't.
You'd think a good head coach would recognize this and do something about it.
I give him a pass on the bad Colts D, Bill Polian hasn't given him shit to work with.

who has control over personel? they have the smallest defensive line in the league and that's pretty much why they can't defend the run. why is there such a premium on speed over size on their defense?
