this guy is a fucking loser. he must think that ball will fetch him more than anyone would pay a piece of shit backup first baseman like himself.

Sox fans, I hope your team dups this asshole. HEs worthless as a player anyway. Keep Millar or get Delgado, but cut this jackass loose.

I saw that this morning too. I'm sure that he'll give it to the Sox, I'd be surprised if he kept it for himself. You can surely understand though why he wants to keep it locked up tight.

now that everyone in the world knows that Bonds (and Mcgwire obviously) were using roids, how much are those balls really worth now? About as much as their records?

He has a much better glove than Millar, and the sox have a great hitting coach, so they can work on that. I'm a big fan of Doug i guess, he made some really clutch plays on the way to heaven. It's the money that pisses me off. My prime example of a respectible athelete.....Paul Kariya, who played for the mighty ducks for about 10 mil a year and wanted to play for the Av's, so he took a 9 mil paycut, if there were only more atheletes like him nowadays.

saw this on Sons of Sam Horn the other day and it applies here:

"As far as Mientkiewicz goes, here we just have a case of a guy with
Lou Merloni disease. He just thinks he is alot better than he actually
is"

i say trade Doug because he'll probably bring you more in return than Millar...plus Theo loves dudes who walk and hit home runs.

Mientkiewicz's picture should be in the dictionary under "warning track power"

Todd McFarlane just lost at $15 million dollar lawsuit to former NHLer Tony Twist, so I doubt he's got the cash to buy the ball.

Give them the fucking ball Doug. It's not like you're Ted fucking Williams. You were at first base for a third of a season. I quote the great Indiana Jones, "It belongs in a museum."

I think he should keep it. He earned it. The bowl could've easily gone through his legs like Buckner.

Earned it my ass...

I don't understand how Mentiedoizwsvzwitz can say he sacrificed so much for the team when he hit .215 with a whopping 10 RBI's for the Sox last year... the guy blowssss

I think he should keep it. His attitude sucks, but who cares. Why do the Red Sox deserve it. I mean they don't really have a legal right to it. If anything MLB could claim they have the right to it, but they have already said that they think it's the players to keep it.

What the MLB should do is set rules in the collective bargaining agreement on stuff like this where all baseball's are property of the league. Then the league can put it in the hall...or put them up for auction for CHARITY.

timeout :!:

the same writer who came up with the "Curse" of the Bambino is behind this too. you guys should listen to the interview here:

Minky Says He Was Sandbagged by Shaughnessy, Says Lucchino Has His Number, Maintains Claim Ball is His

"I should never have called him back, and I did and I didn’t want to... First of all he (Foulke) wasn’t going to throw it to me, I’m yelling at him, ‘throw me the ball!’ I want to be on Sports Illustrated too. He threw me the ball and I held on to it. I held onto the one when we won against the Yankees too. Derek had pitched such a good game, he’s gotta have that ball. I gave it to him after all that he had been through, and I was going to give him this one, and I thought, “this is crazy, I’m a baseball buff, it’s something I want to hang on to.”

“The funny thing about all this, all this came up now. I’ve been telling everybody since the minute we won that I had it. No one has contacted me, no one has said two words to me about this ball.

“The whole thing about me wanting to sell it, I was saying it laughing. The other guy (Dan Shaughnessy), he was laughing. I thought it was going to be a light-hearted article, I was just joking around with him and kidding about it and the whole thing about I can be bought, it was all in jest, it was one of those things. I’ve tried to keep my mouth shut all winter, but when someone backs me into a corner that way, I’m going to come out fighting. If someone portrays me as as someone I’m not, I’m going to have a problem with that. Red Sox fans have not had a chance to know me, to know my personality. The last thing I am is money crazy but I’m also not going to give the thing away either. Not in the near future (does he have plans to sell the baseball)… I would like to keep it. I’ll be more than happy to loan it out, that’s part of baseball history. That’s why I had it authenticated…” -- Doug Mientkiewicz with WEEI's Dale and Neumy

I don't understand why he would... Millar batted .297 last year and he's a perfect fit in the Sox clubhouse... Minty isn't really there... and his .246 average in Minnesota last year does not bode well for his future anywhere either...

Yeah, because he can't make enough money as a professional athlete to send his kids to college.
