Here's one for a bit of fun - Of the studio albums that Pearl Jam have released - pick a song that wasnt released as a single that you believe would have been the best chance at being a hit had it been released...

Ten - Porch
VS - Small Town
Vitalogy - Last Exit
No Code - Present Tense
Yeild - Faithfull
Binaural - Greivance ('Sad' too if it made it!)
Riot Act - Green Disease
Pearl Jam - Come Back

I couldn't see Release, WMA, Parting Ways being a hit - and Save You was a single in the US - which baffles me as to how it wasn't a hit - I love that song! Possibly the constant use of the f**k throughout the song perhaps?

Black and Corduroy too. Yeah they weren't singles but since they have become hits I don't think they qualify for this thread.

Yeah fair enough (though small town rarely played in aus') - I suppose betterman definately falls in that category too!! Here is my updated list..

Ten - Porch
VS - Indifference
Vitalogy - Last Exit
No Code - Present Tense
Yeild - Faithfull
Binaural - Greivance ('Sad' too if it made it!)
Riot Act - Green Disease
Pearl Jam - Come Back

Disqualifying Black, Corduroy, RVM, Small Town, and betterman

1-Porch
2-Indifference (slow, but I don't know anyone who isn't impressed by this one)
3-Nothingman
4-Present Tense
5-In Hiding
6-Grievance
7-You are (they picked the right songs to release from this one)
8-Comatose

Substitute Sad and Down for Grievance and You are if you count b-sides

I won't comment on past records, I think you've all done well.

As far as "Avacado", MITS would have done far better than Gone. But in my opinion, "Parachutes" would have been a song that would have crossed over to alot of "Pop" stations and gathered alot of air time. Most people that I've had over have heard it during a 5 disk shuffle and said, "whoa...who is this man"? When I state PJ......alot can't believe it/love it and some Non-PJer's quickly act like they don't like it so as not to have to admit it.

Interesting thread.

Ten - Porch hands down. It gets a lot of spins here in Philly, but PJ in general does.

Vs. - Kind of tough to pick when considering the two popular non-singles. I'm going to go with Glorified G or Leash, as they are probably closest to PJ's style.

Vitalogy - We'd have to disqualify Nothingman too, folks. Not as popular as Corduroy or Betterman, but in the same vein. Last Exit definitely.

No Code - Smile or Red Mosquito. This album is fairly inaccessible to the casual PJ fan.

Yield - In Hiding easily. Beautiful song. I think Yield could have sold a shitload of records if they made a second video for this song.

Binaural - Grievance or Insignificance. Both have remained concert staples.

Riot Act - I agree with stip that they released the right songs from RA. Man...looking at the tracklist I'm realizing that this is a very inconsistent album. Thumbing My Way might have been nice.

PJ - MITS definitely. I agree.

Present Tense, Faithfull, Smile, Deep, Rats, Sleight of Hand, All those yesterdays, Parting Ways, Army Reserve, Wash, Mankind & Unemployable are ridiculous suggestions, friends. I mean, some of those are amongst my favourite songs. But they're nowhere near hit material imo.
