In college football, coaching is HUGE.

Microsoft is in Seattle...they have lots of money. Let's donate some of that $$$$ to UW so we can hire Chris Peterson or Urban Meyer.

As long as your manager's name doesn't rhyme with Brady Bittle, it isn't that important in baseball.

UW has a pretty good coach already. coaching isn't nearly as important as everyone thinks. recruiting and evaluation, sure, but the players play the games. there are a lot of really good coaches who people give up on way too early. i wouldn't give up on ty willingham if i was running things at UW.

no, but he won 10 in his first year. i'm not sure it's controversial to say he was fired largely because he isn't white. i believe he's the only notre dame coach (who didn't make up shit on his resume) whose contract has not been honored.

but he's a prime example. if coaching is so important and so easy to predict, how is the national coach of the year in 2002 a bum deserving of being fired in 2006?

i agree with this. it's frustrating to interact with people who act as if the players are some kind of programmable robots who follow every instruction to the letter. i think the thing is most fans realize there is no way they could actually step on the field and compete, but deep down many of them probably feel they could call plays or design schemes. one year after a national title, i'd estimate probably 10-15% of Texas' fan base would not be unhappy if Mack Brown were fired tomorrow, because he did a bad job of "coaching" this season.

Your team can only be as good as the full potential of all the players.

That being said, sometimes it takes a good coach to make players realize and utilize their potential.
