i enjoyed the opening to Napolean Dynamite

LOTR The fellowship of the Ring. the whole Ring backstory kicked ass....also the original intro to the movie (not the extended edition) when the scene showed frodo leaning against a tree with the title displayed was a beautiful scene, which was ruined in the extended edition

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: "we cant stop here...this is bat country"

good call my man. gladiator is also kick ass too.

the opening scene to blade is also pretty cool - the fight scene at that vampire bar when he kicks major ass.

The closing(last 15 minutes) of Gladiator is purely amazing!

Nice.

I'm gonna have to go with Eyes Wide Shut, though I don't know why. It was an odd way to open an movie.

Perfect. That opening shot with the theme for the music playing is killer. Even before he begins his humble narration, there is this wonderful shot of his menacing, dark expression under his hat, and then the camera slowly moves back to reveal a previously unknown space and a vibrant setting. And then he begins his story. It all begins with that opening shot though, and I think that's a great way to start off that movie.

I always get the shivers when I watch that scene. It's just...as you said, perfect.

21 Grams which opens with the flight of birds; a beautiful piece of cinematography to start not such a great film.
