... just helped me come to a giant realization

I have been an asshole to the people that are close to me. I can't be that same person and expect everything to work out. This is atleast what I have pulled from this song, and read about it a little. It's moments like this you realize how powerful lyrics can be. Time to start a change, thanks PJ.

Nice.

What I've always found amazing is how accurately they (well, mostly Ed) can describe feelings. You hear a song a go "Yeah, wow, this is exactly how it feels." Being a person who usually finds it hard to describe feelings, it's one of the reasons why their music fascinates me and helps me in many ways.

I had this with Sleight of Hand. The feeling of being in a situation in life where you feel like you've somehow selled yourself short. Not having lived up to your own expectations. Being misplaced.

Fortunately for m,e through my friends (and thanks to this song), I grew to realize that I did have a direction; that I did have positive attributes. I learnt to truly admire and appreciate what I am given by those that are my friends and thereby I have more to give in return.

I can say with great certainty that Pearl Jam has made me a better person.

Off He Goes used to remind me of myself. I had to make a lot of internal changes because I realized I was being that person to those closest to me...

This phenomenon isn't limited to Pearl Jam. I used to be a youth counselor and letting kids play music and discuss the songs is hugely therapeutic for a whole range of behavior disorders. Also, I used to keep a few CDs with a mix of different songs. Having kids draw while they listen to the songs is a great way to discuss how feelings and personal experience changes the meanings of songs.

Jeff Tweedy said that 50% of art is the perception of the viewer or the listener. That's what makes songs like off he goes or moth superior to habit. While some songs rock more than others, the perception I get from off he goes makes it the superior song and the most mature song Ed's ever written.

this song gets a bad rap around here, but its always moved me. i have a friend (or ex friend) who this song could have been written for.

Always great when that lightbulb goes off. happened to me w/ In Hiding, "no longer overwhelmed and it seems so simple now...its all state of mind."

This song gets a pretty great rap around here. I'm one of the only people who really dumps on it.

I can honestly say that i have no idea who or what kind of person i would be without songs like "present tense" or "off he goes" or much of the Pearl Jam songs for that matter. that's why PJ is #1 in my book.
