So will it be the Cubbies, Mets or Yankees that get him? I'm saying Mets

This is a guy who's hit over .300 twice in his career. He's never had 30 or more homeruns and has never had more than 110 RBIs in a season. Why do so many peoplethink he's the savior of baseball? Whoever ends up paying him $100+ million is A.) a fucking imbecile and B.) in for a big disappointment. It's not like he's some up-and-coming rookie. He's 27 years old, he won't be getting much better than he is right now. And right now, a .284 career batting average, to me, doesn't warrant a hundred million dollars.

This post has to be dumbest post i have read ever on this sports board. This is just a guy jealous that his team ain't the verge of getting an up and coming star. Congrats, and eat a dick, but you can have fun watching beltran in a mets uniform next year. i am sick of the mets bashing.

the mets need more than beltran, although he is a step in the right direction (not an aging star on his way out). The mets should have nabbed some young pitchers, and not given up Scott Kazmir last year.

He actually had 38 last year -- remember hearing about him challenging the 40-40 mark?

He *is* a guy who can go for 40-40, and is a good outfielder. Is he worth $100 mill for a team? Probably not, but his stock is high because of the postseason. But I still think he is one of the 10 best offensive players in baseball right now.

Hahahaha. Thanks for the personal attack. Congrats for what? What the hell are you talking about? I simply criticized the fact that the Mets are overspending on a good ballplayer that's overhyped. Good job taking it personally. Honestly. All this nonsense about Beltran is ridiculous. People are making it out to be the be-all end-all of Major League Baseball; as though Ty Cobb, Ted Williams, and Hank Aaron are somehow combined together and the result is Carlos Beltran. He's certainly an improvement over what they've got now, but he's not amazing. And for the record, I live in New York and am a fairweather Mets fan. Good call, way to be oversensitive.

Good point. My mistake. That is, however, the first time he's had 30+. Honestly, if a guy isn't going to be hitting at least .300, he should be hitting a ton of home-runs. But those are just my standards, I suppose.

i guess there's more to the game than power hitting, maybe great defense, speed on the basepaths, or low K/high BB?

It's not about power hitting, though. If he's not going to hit for average, he'd better compensate with some serious power if he's going to be making hundreds of millions of dollars.

Beltran will obviously help the Mets, but his offensive numbers will likely decrease playing in Shea.

It's interesting when you compare him to Andruw Jones. They are almost EXACTLY the same age, and their career OPS' are similar - although Beltran's been up above .900 the last few years, and Jones only hit that mark a few years ago.

let's not get crazy.

He's barely in the top 20, if that.

i think it is a good pickup for the Mutts, they will obviosly be a better team than last year. as a yankee fan I don't feel so bad for the Yanks passing on him. I definitely think $119M is way too high for him but I guess we will see. they have their own network coming out so they will have some serious cash to play with in the future

The original contract he was looking for. Stop being so petty and semantic. No one cares.
