I saw this film tonight, it came out on DVD last week, and was in theaters last summer, but nobody saw it. Great, great suspense/thriller starring Tom Cruise and Jamie Fox. The acting is great and so is the direction. Its a bit formulaic and predictable at times but Michael Mann, who also did Heat, Ali, Last of the Mohicans, and produced The Aviator and The Inisder (needed IMDB for those , never fails to go balls to the wall with action and style.
The story is this: Jamie Fox is a lonely cabdriver who picks up Cruise at an airport. Cruise asks him to drive him to six destinations all night and he'll give him some money, which of course he nervously accepts because he doesn't want to skip out on his actual job. Obviously, Cruise is a badass corporate killer who gets Fox in a mess of trouble, and it reminded me of Training Day and the TV show '24' somewhat. Its beautifully shot and the suspense is some of the best I've seen in a while, in fact the action was as good as anything I've seen in years. Fox is very appealing and easy to empathize with as an "everyman," and Cruise gives a great performance as well, in fact, I'd say its one of his best. There's some interesting dialogue and philosophizing (?) that takes place between the two leads. Like I said, it was formulaic/predictable at times, but it was trying to appeal to the masses (and once again), nobody saw it.
Great film, 8/10

I thought it was a pretty damn good movie myself. It was refreshing to see Tom Cruise in a not - so Tom Cruise role.
Yea, exactly!

Great, great movie. Despite the fact that the ending was kind of predictable I loved it. Tom Cruise was amazing in it. He plays a great villian and should play that role more often.

good movie but the ending sucked. how in the hell can jamie foxx kill a trained professional killer like tom cruise by shooting his gun w/ his eyes closed in the dark.

i really liked it up until one point in the movie..im thinkin it was right after j foxx drove the cab nuts and wrecked on purpose..
the ending sucked..for some reason..i thought pinkett was the mastermind behind the murders and that wouldve been much cooler..it ended up so boring..
and youre right..how the hell could this cab driver kill a trianed hitman..and even come close to making it to the building on time to save the chick..
the best thing about it was that they played shadow on the sun by audioslave..i always said it was the best track on the cd..they shouldve released it as a single

I think Tom Cruise is actually a good actor. A lot of people think he sucks and is one dimensional but he's done well in some great roles. Its pretty hard to make up for Top Gun though

My only gripe with him is that he tends to just play himself and not really make his characters that dynamic, but he did a really good job in this role.

I just saw this last night and couldn't agree more with your post. How could a guy who can go into a club and kill every mother fucker with pinpoint aim, be dropped so easily in the end? Good acting and directing, but the ending definately left me with a bad taste in my mouth. 6/10, 8/10 before the last 20 minutes of the film.
