I'm surprised this hasn't really been discussed yet, since there seems to be a good amount of Tarantino fans here. This film is supposed to be his 'major work', probably surpassing Kill Bill in scope. It's been rumored about for years, but seems to be going ahead after Grind House this year. Tarantino has said that he has a 6 hour script that he wrote between Jackie Brown and Kill Bill. He's thinking about either cutting it down or releasing 2 or 3 parts like he did with Kill Bill. Anyways, on to the plot.
Plot Details
Set in World War II, the story revolves around a group of soldiers on their way to be executed, when they get the chance of a reprieve. Tarantino has described them as "not your normal hero types that are thrown into a big deal in World War II." Tarantino has also described this as a "guys-on-a-mission" movie.
So far only Michael Madson (Mr. Blonde from Reservoir Dogs) has been confirmed. A ton of other stars have been rumored to have a roll in it.

yea he can be overrated but that doesn't stop me from enjoying most of his films. i don't think i'm anticipating another film as much as this one and maybe sin city 2.

It would be really cool to see what his take on a "war movie" would be. Personally, I have very little use for modern war flicks, but I think he could do something cool and unique with it.
That said, I'll be very surprised if he ever gets around to actually doing it. Didn't he talk about this on that "Iconoclasts" he did with Fiona Apple? About how it was his Mount Everest and he needed to climb it before he got any older and couldn't. Or something like that. Anyway, I love Tarantino so bring it on.

In the midst of his coke fueled rant I believe he does mention how Kill Bill was like an Everest as well and that's why he didn't think he was ready to conquer IB, but the person in question tells him soon he'll be too old to want to do it or something to that effect. You can't make sense out of what that motherfucker is saying half the time.

Haha yeah, that's what fun about listening to him talk. He's like a super-happy, hyperactive little kid. And with the life he's had, why the hell wouldn't he be like that?
As a side note, I almost met Tarantino several weeks ago when he was filming Grindhouse in Austin. I couldn't stay up late enough to wait for him.
yea as well as stalone, steve buscemi, and many others. i think michael madsen named a ton of big name actors that were in talks to be in it but i think tarantino shot it down.

When Quentin Tarantino announced at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival that he was finally going to make his big war epic Inglorious Bastards, I commented that Tarantino sometimes comes off like a compulsive liar. Because, lets face it, how many projects has this guy promised over the years that have not and probably will never come to fruition (The Vega Brothers, The Psychic Remake, the Kill Bill Prequel/sequel… etc). I think the guy just has a lot of ideas that he enjoys talking about.
A year earlier Tarantino told me he was going to write the script while doing international press for Grindhouse. The only reason I think he did Grindhouse was because he had Rodriguez kicking him in the ass the whole way. And don’t get me wrong, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Tarantino’s filmography, but I’ve just gotten tired of being excited about the unproduced projects he’s announced over the years. So when he revealed his plans to bring Bastards to the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, it seemed rather unlikely. But there might just be some truth to it after all.
Tarantino was scheduled to appear at the Alamo Drafthouse’s Rolling Roadshow events in Spain but made a last minute cancellation. The official word is that “He has cleared all appearances to begin preproduction on his new feature, Inglorious Bastards.” So it appears like Inglorious Bastards might be happening after all.
Tarantino has described Inglorious Bastards as a “Spaghetti Western set in France during World War II”. Based Loosely on the premise of The Dirty Dozen, the story centers around a rag tag group of soldiers that are sent on a deadly mission as an alternative to being court-marshaled or put to death. Over the years the rumored cast list has included the likes of Michael Madsen, Adam Sandler, Eddie Murph, Sly Stallone Paul Walker, Eddie Murphy, Sylvester Stallone, Tim Roth, Julie Dreyfus, Bo Svenson and Enzo Castellari.

tarantino likes to raise up washed up actors. he revived travolta's, and brought david karadine back . he does some great things with those actors, but they had personality to begin with, sly is just a dumb jock. eddie murphy is just too full of his own shit to care. but who knows maybe he can pull a rabit out of his ass.

I heard about this project when the Grindhouse films were coming out on DVD's.
As a fan of Tarantino's I can't hard wait for this one to come out. I'm not sure about the other rumored casts but I know Roth and Madsen won't be disappointments.

This movie is QT's Chinese Democracy. And I'm a dumb, slobbering fan holding my breath for it. "Pre-production" is promising, but I won't start jumping for joy until I see set photos.
Tarantino, whether you like him or not, knows his shit. If he picks Sly Stallone for a role, there's a reason for it - he'll be playing a dumb jock. If he picks Eddie Murphy for a role, there's a reason for it - he'll be playing some cocky bastard. This flick will be well-directed with well-developed characters ... if it ever gets off the ground.
