Why do people hate Pearl Jam? Thoughts?

I ask because I find this to be quite common. Maybe it's because I live in Seattle and there are just too many hipsters here who think "grunge is dead", and it's just not cool to like them anymore?? (i don't refer to pj as grunge btw).

The other night I had my pj playlist going on my ipod; not even three songs later somebody says "enough of this pearl jam shit!"

I defended myself and pj, and made the point of saying that we'd just listened to KISS for an hour; what the fuck is that all about???

on RM: they're too cool for Pearl Jam

in real life: cause apparently Kelly Clarkson or some glorified karaoke singer is "better."

either way.

Like some people already said, Ed's Voice:

One time, my mom mentioned how Ed's voice is really shaky. I hadn't noticed it before until she said it. This was like a year ago. I thought i would never get over it and I didn't talk to her for like 2 weeks. But I forgot about it and, now I'm back to not even noticing it like before. :)

ignorance of their music i say... then again I think its an aquired taste, but once you get into it, its very rewarding. not everyone can get into Ten, and while i like it ok, I understand why they dont sometimes.

the only songs that i would not like on ten if i had to listen to it the whole way through for a first time would be: oceans and deep...how can someone not like ten...besides frank of course

Its funny you mention that because i once let my mom listen to my walkman and im pretty sure off he goes or nothingman was playing and she asked me is that country? I was shocked and hurt and the same time.

But ya i think most people just dont understand thier music and they think that all they are is grunge and thus are full of anger for no apparent reason, atleast this is what ive heard from many people who critize them when ever i put on a track

Probably the same reason you wouldn't like some random band. I guess they just don't feel it. I wouldn't say I hate the band, I'm just not too interested in it. Grunge as a whole doesn't really do anything for me anymore, although I do find myself putting on a Nirvana track occasionally.

You could probably find a different reason for each person, although some reasons such as vocal style, or the depressing songs, or I guess more recently the political themes seem to turn people off more often.

grunge bands were invented and put together by record moguls in order to pave the way for fresh new genuine acts such as Creed, the Spice Girls and emo bands.

Pearl Jam is like sorbet to a lot of people. You end up at the ice cream shop, and most people don't have sorbet in mind when they go there, and they usually go for the ice cream. Possibly with a sugar cone, even. You've got to want sorbet before you even enter the shop. Nobody goes to an ice cream store and thinks, "hey, I want sorbet!".

The lesson here kids, is if you want sorbet, go punch that asshole in the ice cream shop who is making fun of you for getting sorbet. Cut his childrens tongues out and burn his house down. Then see how big that ice cream scooping motherfucker thinks he is!

The real answer: They were popular. They spawned many imitators. The imitators became popular. The market became saturated. The sound grew old, but people still wanted to be depressed. NIN made them hate themselves. Manson made them hate God. Alanis Morrisette made them believe God was a woman. Then a brief, fruitful window opened. Yield came out during this time. Then Fred Durst happened. He's like a motherfuckin' chainsaw. That didn't stop the terrorists. U2 stopped sucking. Pearl Jam started sucking. Up was down. Ask REM. Green Day walked a lonely road in tight pants. The road was no longer lonely. Music went down, down, doobie-loobie-do-bah. Men became half bitches. Pearl Jam stopped sucking. But the kids say they sound like fucking Creed.

POTD?

U2 stopped sucking and had an instontaneous relapse of suckiness. I dont think pj ever sucked, but its all subjective on this board. I like the fact that they arent so popular. to me it freed them up to do alot of experimentation, but everyone seems to want to bash that around here.

I tell you though having this discussion on this board is like on the inside fucking looking out right? (fuck you aron lewis)
