I kept meaning to post this but there are some optimized executables for firefox and thunderbird (so-called Moox builds) that many tech folks have been raving about. Supposedly you can get up to a 30% increase in speed. You have to know what kind of processor you have (Intel Pentium, AMD, etc) but for anyone interested, it's been highly recommended by many..

Hard to say. Both Firefox and Thunderbird seem to be running a little smoother, but I'm wondering if it's just the power of suggestion... You know, like they are supposed to run faster now that I have these special builds. It's certainly worth a try (that is, unless there are some backdoors added to the code ;) )

I think that what Firefox and Thunderbird need most (more than processing power) is memory. I recently got a memory upgrade for my computer at work and since now I'm running it with 1GB of RAM I have as good as no performance problems.

I looked a that page and in the list of processors has AMD K6-2. Mine says K6 3D. DOes anyone know if that's the same? I like the features in Firefox but haven't been able to resolve frequent freezing problems hoped this would help. I freeze every 10 minutes for 25 seconds if I use it.

You could try emailing him: moox@moox.ws

I'd imagine you could just give it a try regardless though. If it's not optimized for your processor, it just won't be as fast as ideal. At least that's all that I think would happen..

A warning to webdevelopers in particular: The Firefox speedup tweaks CAN result in rendering anomalies.

So maybe you should post it in the firefox thread that has to do with that then?

except that it doesn't suck like IE. In fact, other than the fact that it's a web browser... it's nothing like IE
