There's no thread on this yet, so I'll start the discussion.
We'll hear no stories of dynasties or destinies now that the Patriots and the Saints are gone; it's two teams that haven't played in the Super Bowl in decades - Chicago since '85 and the Colts since the Vietnam War. Prepare to get sick of yet another round of '85 Bears talk and hearing that awful "Super Bowl Shuffle" and people still blabbing about Manning not doing well in the playoffs and all that.
For the Bears to win, they have to be opportunistic like they were versus the Saints; playing like they did against the Seahawks and "just getting by" won't cut it. They have to force turnovers and keep Manning with his face to the turf, and give their anemic offense great field position and non-offensive points with turnovers and Devin's huge returns.
For the Colts, they should stay mistake-free. Even with their two great backs, they shouldn't expect much of a running game against this defense; Manning will have to win it through the air. If he stays confident and the receivers don't drop the passes they could have this one in the bag by halftime.
The big wild card is the Colts D, who gave up 100+ running yards to every regular season opponent but have held all three of the capable teams they've faced in the playoffs to less than 100 (the Pats only finished with 92 net yesterday, I think). If they continue to turn it on, Grossman will likely not be consistent enough to keep up with the Colts scoring machine, and even taking advantage of the opportunities the Bears seem to magically create won't be enough.

I like a lot of your thoughts... to be completely accurate though, this is the "Indianapolis" Colts' first Super Bowl appearence. And the line it looks like is gonna start at Colts by 7.

The two week layoff before the game is far too long. It mightily increases the chance of rusty teams playing a sloppy game. And you're right, it gives the media more time to beat every possible angle, and some new ones they'll make up, to death.

I can't call this game at all. I think it will be close and hard fought because that's how both teams have played all year.
I almost want to block out all the media for the next two weeks so I can not hear about Rex Grossman or Peyton Manning to the point of nausea.
Joseph Addai and Thomas Jones may play as big a part as either.
I'm very glad to see two fresh teams in the superbowl. Neither team has made it in a long time and both cities have to be bursting with excitement.
Both teams play opportunistic agressive defense. The game I think hinges on turnovers (the ability to score points off turnovers) and time of possession.

i hope you're right.

im having a hrd time picking this one, but just about everyone is thinking the colts are going to walk away with this one with the AFC being more powerful and manning finally getting there and so on... right now im leaning towards the BEARS, but i have 2 weeks to make my decision.

I figured the Pats would be a 7-point favorite against the Bears, and deservedly so. But, the Colts? No way. I'll take the Bears and the points all day. I'd guess the line drops to 6 by game day. Of course, I've heard some thinking the line will go to 7.5, so who knows. THe Bears couldn't have asked for a better matchup for their running game.

You know they tied with the Colts for the second most points scored this season, and scored 39 yesterday.

i dont think it was great yesterday, but their run d has been much better in the post season. and ever if chicago run the ball well, they aren't gonna keep up w/ the colts offense

they may not have to. Hester might be running up and down the field all night on returns....
