He sounds like a man that's drunk on power and greed. He couldn't have delivered a more fitting vocal performance.

DTE was the first song I heard off of Yield and I was a little nervous. I loved the performance but I didn't know if it was just an unhinged number or if he had totally shot his voice

Musically I prefer it live but the studio vocals are the definitive ones. If they could only combne them it might be my favorite Pearl jam song

The studio vocals are brilliant. On the other side, the Lo2L's version is the most powerful I've heard Ed since 94. That scream before the last Do the Evolution just blows my mind.

The song is too slow on the album. I need this song fast.

lo2l, agreed. best version out there. Jack irons sucks on the fucking studio, i hate his approach to the song.

The onyl reason i enjoy the studio version is because its completely different than any other version out there.

lo2l is brilliant though. makes me sometimes believe its the best rock song ever recorded. from the drums, to the bassline, the guitar riffs adn solos, the vox and the lyrics...

The best version ever came in 2006, from 9/2/06.

I love the studio vocal. Probably one of the few songs in which I like the studio vocal more than a live one.

to me there's no contest between the best live version and the studio version. the studio version is perfection. the slightly slower pace gives a lot of room for the distorsion, ed's delivery is perfect, his scream going into the solo is incredible, and i don't think he ever came close to matching it live, and with his voice the way it is, he will never have the chance now.

studio: 43,546,002 points.
best live version: 3 points.

Ed sounds a lot more primal on the studio version than he does live. This is a song that benefits from production.
