Officials of the Council on American-Islamic Relations expressed dismay at the depiction of a Muslim family after watching a 24-minute promotion of the series opener.
"At first I was shocked," spokeswoman Rabiah Ahmed told the New York Daily News, because "they show an American-Muslim family and they portray them as terrorists."
At issue is a scene in which a teenager helps his parents plot to kill Americans.
"What we will accomplish today will change the world," the father tells the son over breakfast. "We are fortunate that our family has been chosen to do this."
Ahmed said the scene "casts a cloud of suspicion over every American-Muslim family out there."
Okay there is also a scene where a Gov't offical might get his head cut off by the terrorists and yells to them something like, "is this what your religion teaches you?" Now I understand why they fear that people might take it the wrong way, but lets be serious. You would think the muslim group thought the producers of 24 just pulled that plot story out of their ass. The American-Islamic Relations should I least do what they can to help stop the bullshit thats going on overseas where they are cutting off heads. Because in a way, 24 is telling the truth.

If anyone should be upset over According to Jim, it should be hot women. Shows like that, and Still Standing, give fat white guys the illusion that really hot women will marry them someday.

According to Jim is still on?!?!?? Clients loved that show like 3 years ago when I worked in the group home. I never dreamed it would still exist!
I wouldn't compare stereotyping in a show like Jim to a show like 24, because my understanding is that the latter isn't a comedy (correct me if I'm wrong...I no watchy TV), and I would think that the only way to make nonmuslim violent characters comparible is if their violence was impled to be influenced by their religion as well, but I'm pretty sure violent Christians can be found on TV or in movies.
Or, you know, in real life.
But seriosly, it's just fucking TV, and I don't feel bad for anybody who wastes their time with it.

What's the point of this? You don't see me complaining that every show on TV makes teenagers and Texans look like ignorant dumbshits. There's a reason it's called fiction.

Give me a list of 19 Muslims that did that, and I'll be offended as well.
I know some see where I am going w/ this...

Right. Saudis. Bush. Surprise.
Hah, you took it in a different way. I was simply gonna say 7 of those "19 sky-jackers" are still alive, while one of them died a year before the attacks. Mueller, FBI Director, admitted he didn't know who exactly was on those planes.

I think Muslims are too sensative about this. Before 9-11 there would be "muslim like" characters carrying on like a terrorist. However, there were also, British, German and even American terrorists in movies. People just need to realize that movies and tv shows are just that, and should be taken as just that.

Before 9/11, they weren't as sensitive because it was simply fiction. Now the truth hurts too much.
To be fair, I can understand them not liking the proliferation of stereotypes, but in shows that strive to have brutal realism, you can't bow to political correctness and still maintain any integrity in your presentation.
