yeah, so i'm using uTorrent for youkanland, and i'm having the worst time trying to set up port forwarding. i've followed the very, very simplistic guide as set forth over at http://www.portforward.com...but i'm still getting nowwhere

does it matter that my dns comes up, in order,
xxx.xxx.xxx.150
xxx.xxx.xxx.149
0.0.0.0
?

i must've went through this thing a million times, retracing steps, but it still says the port isn't open (utorrent's built in verification thingie says so)

DNS shouldn't have anything to do with port forwarding. Chances are your problem is either you're behind (a) a firewall or (b) a router (or both). First, go to the router configuration (http://192.168.1.1) and go to port forwarding (might be under Applications or some other subheading) and forward the desired port to the correct local IP (if you're using Windows, you'll have to configure your network connection to always use the same IP, which will ask for a DNS). If you're behind a router, you'd probably be safe just disabling it as long as you forward only that port to your local computer.

Do you have internet connectivity after you change your local IP settings? If so, open up a command prompt, type "ipconfig", and ensure that your local IP is indeed the one you set it up to use (should be something like 192.168.1.XXX). If that's fine, and you have internet connectivity, the problem is in either port forwarding or your firewall.

I'm assuming you have a router since you're configuring a static IP, so the next thing to do is make sure the port is forwarded. You have to change the router configuration such that the port you want to allow incoming connections through is forwarded to the computer running utorrent. It should ask for a port number, an IP address (which would be the 192.168.1.XXX), and whether you want to forward TCP or UDP (choose both).

If that STILL doesn't work, then it's probably the firewall.

when i go to http://192.168.1.1/ i get asked to sign in. I try using admin and admin for both fields, but it doesnt work. Is it possible that this is not working because i am attempting to do this on my laptop connected to the wireless and not directly connected to the router like my desktop computer?

No, your router has an administrator password that you need to access it. I guess if you don't know it, you're pretty much screwed. There has to be a way to reset the hardware, or if nobody has accessed the router, it should be set to some default value. In which case, RTFM.
